    Can it be done?

I got a set of 9 speed Ultegra shifter of ebay recently and the LH shifter is set for a triple. Is there any way of converting this to work with a double chainring. I’m a bit of a numpty and would try and shift into the third chainring on my double.

Is it a nine or ten speed set up?

9 speed – does it make a difference?

What Fenboy says, just like putting a duo on a MTB.

I bought a bike with a double – when I put a triple on it I discovered they were actually triple shifters anyway.

Double = inner and middle from a triple, but bigger. So no converting to be done. As fenboy says.
