    Some iconic films there. I still remember that horn “tune” the Vikings played when the boats arrived back at the fyord after all the pillaging (etc).

    Great actor, great producer and one of those who ended the blacklisting of the McCarthy era.
    Paths of glory outstanding film, better than Spartacus, as is Ace in the Hole.

    30+ years ago when I started work they did a yearly Celebrity Death pool lottery thing and he was one of the contenders.Think he’s outlived half the ticket buyers

    Spartacus was a Stanley Kubrick film?, well I never.

    Well, kind of. He took over directing it almost as a favour.  He preferred to have complete control of his films and this was the only one he didn’t have that.

    I knew he directed it, but until I went to a Kubrick exhibition last year in London – I didn’t know the back story. Apparently he hated the experience.

    Back to the main topic – my favourite film of Kirk’s was The Viking’s.
