hi everyone,

Got a bit of a dilemma at the moment,

im goin back to alu wheels from my enve m70thirty hv rims cos i just dont like the harsh rigid feel they give,

im looking at 3 in particular

raceface arc 27

dt swiss ex 471

stans flow mk3

I like a ride to feel nice and soft as opposed to super stiff

most of my riding is done in the peak district so it needs to be durable too,

dont want much do i 🙄😂😂

thanks in advance dudes n dudets

Easiest way to decide would be to select what inner rim width you want, the three rims above are i25/27/30mm.

Personally I'd go for the EX 471, has great reviews, quality rim.

I used to only ride Stans rims, with Evo hubs, but I wouldn't any more.

Of the ones you mention I would definitely go for DT Swiss, and whilst there's something a little boring and conservative about them as a brand, I find, I can't fault them for sheer quality and value.

Either EX471 or (if you want wider) the EX511.

I wouldn't get the ARCs

I'm about to have to rebuild my wheels to replace mine, as the.sidewalls appear pretty cheese like.

I'm tempted to try xm521s for the extra volume as the they're only a bit heavier than ex511s.

XM is a thinner walled extrusion though compared to EX, so if you’re a serial rim-dinger, I’d stick with EX models.

EX471 from that list (based on damaged wheels that come in to me)

Based on that list, EX471. But i'd probably chose an XM481 over all of them.

Yeah, I saw that about the XM, but lots of reports seem to indicate the 481s are about as tough as the EXs.

May try an alternative and go 481 or Flow with an insert for a similar total weight.

471's off that list.

My ARC's have held up OK (only one ding in two years), but the 511's that I'm using on my DH bike seem much tougher. If they'd been available, I'd bought a set of DT's.

I was in a similar dilemma last week, forumites warned me off the Easton/RaceFace Arc so I went with Flow Mk3s.  I've very little to add except that I'm quite happy with them so far, three rides in.

Just came off carbon onto to ex471 on 240s hubs 6 months ago.

Initially noticed the weight (+200g) but they seem so much more comfortable and much more robust with rock strikes, etc. All riding thus far been in the (rocky) Lakes or here in SW Scotland.

DT 481 rims are light and wide, but not massively robust compared to say a wtb i25 which are completely bombproof if you ride rocks like in the lakes.     It depends what you want and where you ride I suppose. I’ve had 3 damaged 481s this last year, maybe due to too low pressures and rock interface issues!  I like them though because they make the bike feel light compared to say an ex471 as I’m quite a light rider..

Bad experience with WTB on rocky Peak descents - DT for me next!
