I am heading to Edale soon for a work team building event. I am planning to stay over the next night and do some riding.

Looming on Google maps, I can see names like Jacobs Ladder, Rush up edge, mam tor etc which all are names I’ve seen on the forum and in the magazine so must be good riding there!

I am not local and never been before. Can someone recommend a good simple to follow loop poss on a GPX file?

There’s so much good riding around Edale. I hope the trails stay reasonably dry for you.
I’ll ask hubby to sort out some routes for you later.

The classic Jacob’s Ladder / Roych route is worth doing:

Or buy an Ordnance Survey map and go exploring local bridleways. They’re all pretty good in a rubbly Dark Peak sort of way.

Key bit of info we need is how long a ride you want?
As BH says, Edale is right at the centre of the best MTB in the Peak. You could grind up Chape Gate and down Jacobs in less than an hour or expand it to include 100km of great trails.
What sort of height gain do you want?

Route 1, as above is Chapel, Slabs ( future Bridleway), Jacobs. Must be about 400m of height gain and 14km

Option 2 expands it to include Rushup Edge and Hollins Cross ascent instead of Chapel Gate (600m, 20km)

Option 3 is the classic Jacobs route except with the hellish Coldwell Clough clim replaced by a much nicer one: (1000m, 28km ): https://strava.app.link/b4pnq9AlHpb

Option 4 excludes Jacobs, but includes good stuff like Cavedale, Beast, Roman Road etc. Good if you can persuade someone to shuttle you up to Mam Nick: (34km 1300m)

Then Option 5 cobbles together 9 of the supposed 10 best descents in the Peak for an all day epic (77km, ~2400m)

Bike Garage is a cracking resource. James is a top bloke and super helpful for hire fleet and route guidance etc.

Interesting. Are there moves afoot to have the Brown Knoll path reclassified?

Where can you park a car in Edale to leave it safely and out of the way for a few hours?

I’ve always parked in the train station car park up the top of the lane past the penny pot cafe with no issues

I’d be surprised if that was a plan. Since it’s been slabbed it’s much more accessible, it used to be a miserable slog before (from various fell race experience).

I think it depends when you’re there these days. There’s enough demand for parking that some of the local farmers are repurposing their fields as car parks at weekends and they are rammed at £5 all day according to the signs.

The classic free parking has always been on the road up towards Jacob’s Ladder, but there’s limited capacity and it fills up quickly. Big pay and display at Edale and a smaller one behind the car park.

    I think it’s a gentle generalissimo, conscience-mocking joke 🙂

I did the singletrack classic ride linked above a couple of weeks ago – was stunning! Some tough climbs, but some of the best riding in the country in my opinion…

Thanks all, some good looking options there. Thinking of a 3-4hr ride c.1000m of climbing I guess. That STW loop looks good will look at other links too, Thanks all.

Plan to park at Edale Station which is where boss wants to meet

    Spot on BWD. 🙂

As a kid/ young adult, I did approx 10 or 15 years mtbing in Scotland under the old rules, sticking religiously to bridleways. I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was completely wrong and evil to cycle on a footpaths, so I didn’t. And it was shit, utterly shit.

Years later after I moved to England, someone suddenly ( not really suddenly ;-)) had an epiphany and decided ” you know all those old rules you’ve been sticking to? Complete bag of shite, we’ve binned the lot of them. Fill yer boots”

I’ve got one life ( well perhaps only a third of it left by now realistically 🤨 ) and I’m not making that **** mistake twice.
