...well they won't next year!

And we thought the current cars were ugly enough, it looks like they may have a droopy willy stuck out front in 2014!...

I think the new ones look stunning. The old ones are a thing of beauty in a classic way but the new cars look almost SciFi.

Anything from the late 70's through late 80's.

Hairy arsed, big engined, fast & furious and driven by real men. 😀

The utterly bonkers

Not many people remember Lamborghini did F1 cars - this one looked nice

And for pure simplicity

Cool car.

Even Eddie Cheever's helmet design looked cool.

I like that Parmalat one, I had one on my Scaletrix set when I was a kid. The ones from the black and white days are things of beauty though.

Some of you lot have a very weird idea of beauty. The classic cars the Maclaren up there are the only good looking ones. I'd throw in some of the recent Red Bulls too.

I always loved the FW14b not least because it was a brilliant piece of engineering

[img] [/img]

What pisses me off about these ugly f1 cars due to the rules is that any of the designers in the grid could have said that that's the likely consequence of the rules. Ask they had to do was mandate a minimum width of the nose along with the minimum area.

The collection at Williams HQ is quite staggering if you ever get the chance.

The Jordan 191 was the high point for me.

If the Autosport article is representative of next year's cars, they're going to look like a bunch of droogs attempting a burglary.

The chap who did the drawing (Craig Scarborough) was bang-on when it came to the stepped noses a couple of season ago.

The formula is making a quantum leap engine wise but I think the cars will still look pretty much as they have in the last few seasons,
The aero package shouldn't change that much as it's more a case of optimizing the current thinking.thats just my opinion though.

It's the fuel that's the key from now on.

I really genuinely think that the new engine technology is going to make a difference. One which will filter down into common use an give us massive engine power from small amounts of fuel.
Some real beautiful cars above.
Thanks for sharing

Love the Jordan 191, the Ferrai 156s and (if it didn't have the Gold Leaf logos and stupid stilt wing) the Lotus 49.. Whoever picked Villeneuve's 312 and the Ligier, you're wrong uns. 🙂

Oo - meant to say, don't worry too much how they look next year, every time there's a big change in the rules the new ones look wrong, but you forget they were any different after a couple of races. 🙂

I personally think they should impose wing/aerofoil restrictions in such a way that the convoluted mess as per Autosport's diagram is basically ruled out. I know the top teams always find ways to bend the rules but perhaps it might give the lower rank teams a bit more of a helping hand.

And that 640 sounded amazing too...twelve cylinders all wailing away tunefully.

BRM - just beautiful; what a racing car ought to look like:

Or this one, skinny tyres and no power-steering:

I wish they would just stop with the rules already. Why arn't they going 300mph yet? Rockets, loop the loops, upside down in tunnels etc. It could be so much more entertaining 🙂

Oh, and isn't it time for Adrian Newey to move to another team again? Boring watching the red bull win all the time. Go to Williams Adrian, make Massa a WC.

If this is done for safety reasons, surely the droopy nose bit is just going to shear off, leaving the rest of the nose to carry on ploughing into whatever it is the FIA don't want it to.

Any engineers care to comment?

That's what the mandatory crash testing is for. The new chassis with the silly noses will still have to pass the test which they wouldn't if that happened.
