Just had an email from relish Broadband saying they are taking £836 from my bank account by DD today!! Never heard of them, cancelled bank card and checked no DD set up.
Anyone know about this - is it a scam, there phone numbers don't work!

Sounds like a right pickle. (© Perchy)

But seriously, it has to be some sort of email mix up? Have you contacted the gentlemen at Relish?

Curious how a broadband DD charge ever be that high, though.

Smells a bit fishy but I'm sure they'll be Gentlemen about it if you ring up.

Besides, your bank can reverse any improperly taken DD under the guarantee.

Google would suggest there's a number of dissatisfied customers and that they're in trouble financially, but nothing to suggest that it's an actual scam company. Sounds like it's either a spoofed email or a mistake. Are there any links in the email to dubious-looking websites to log in to?

Something about being in a jam.

cancelled bank card and checked no DD set up.

All they've done is sent you an email. If they were a legitimate company and you're not a customer then they wouldn't have taken any money because they don't have your payment details. A scammer who did have your payment details they wouldn't take the money and then politely email you, under the guise of a broadband provider, to tell you.

The scam isn't taking £836. The scam is you clicking on any link in the email thinking they are a legitimate company to deal with and giving them any information. Hopefully you've not done that.
