this is what you need , you removed the allen bolt 1st then wind this puppy on !think the x tools one is considerably cheaper if you aren't using it very often .
How old are the cranks? You'll be able to see if it's square taper, if you can't then it'll likely be the more modern external bb system.
The Park tools website will have a demo of how to remove both types.
erm about 18 months old i think
No, they use splines and a self extraction system called X-type on Raceface Evolve XC, at least that's what mine was like.
If they've not been off before they'll be tight as hell so you'll need some strength and possibly a hammer for 'shock' treatment.
You'll need 2 allen keys, I forget what size, to fit the inner allen head fastener and the extractor cap. Loosen the outer extractor cap using the larger allen key then screw it back in against the inner fastener just finger tight and undo half a turn to allow the inner to move. Now using the smaller allen key unscrew the inner fastener so as it unscrews against the back of the extractor cap and the crank arm will be pushed off the splines.
If you have trouble loosening the inner a tap on the fitted allen key with a hammer might help to get things started; ensure that you've got the correct size of allen key fitted squarely and that you hold it in place with your free hand to prevent it mashing the fastener's head.
Simples.
To refit, apply copper grease to the inner fastener and tighten that one first then the extractor cap which also acts to hold it all together. Loctite on the outer might help it to stay in place as they can come loose.
i had a crack at taking them off today, my race-face atlas all mountain cranks are x-type and all they needed was a simple large allen key which did the job fine, i thought the race face evolve cranks would be the same type of job but turns out you need the extractor tool which i didn't have, shame i had to stop what i was doing ๐ get the tool and get them off and your laughing ๐
Mine was the "other" type that needed an extractor which i didn't have . got the lbs to whip it off .I was hoping obviously it was the 2 allen bolt job but unfortunately not .You'll know straight away when you take the bolt out and see whats underneath .
yeh cause on mine the cranks just popped off where as my mums i only got a top cap off lol
Some of them have the self extracting bolts, I think they stopped using that though, and newer ones need a crank puller.
