I just tried to eat one at my desk. Couldnt get into the damn thing, finally punctured the top and got squirted in the eye, then tried to get the peel off and dripped juice all over my desk and keyboard, finally got to trying a bit and it was once of those chewy ones, threw most of it away.

From now on I will be sticking to oranges of the Terrys variety or onces that you can get in a carton.

At least my office smells nice now though 😆

I have an orange everyday in my lunch. Some (usually bigger navel oranges) are easy to peel, some are more difficult. The only pointless ones are those that are all juiceless inside. (Usually from Asda.)

Juice them. The only thing to do IMO. Good in carrot cake too.

It's when you get it all peeled de-pithed then it draws your teeth back like Esther Rantzen it's that tarty.

    Except bananas.

I disagree. They need time and nurturing – I hate the green/yellow ones and have to wait patiently until the yellow/black balance is right.

Anyone ever seen the Eddie Izzard 'pears going over-ripe' sketch? Genius.

    And this…

The banana plant is the world's largest herb and a member of the lily family.

    Well I never!

Bananas aren't fruit, or herbs – everyone knows they're legumes. Jeez.

Cows are self mobile, honey comes in it's own container.

From Ask Oxford (as in the dictionary people)

Is a banana a fruit or a herb?

Both. A banana (the yellow thing you peel and eat) is undoubtedly a fruit (containing the seeds of the plant: see answer regarding tomatoes), though since commercially grown banana plants are sterile, the seeds are reduced to little specks. However, the banana plant, though it is called a 'banana-tree' in popular usage, is technically regarded as a herbaceous plant (or 'herb'), not a tree, because the stem does not contain true woody tissue.

Struggling to get into an orange? Yet still somehow managing to gain employment. 🙂

I agree with oganic, a lot of hard work for little reward. Either too bitter, too dry, or you get sticky juice down your front!
