Orange 5 RP23 stroke length?

Have a 2009 Orange 5 with RP23 shock, looking to replace the shock but don't know the stroke length. Anyone help?

Not 100% but I think it's 190x51mm

I have an 09 RP23 shock in this size for sale if it's any use.

You may well be better off with a coil shock as the general consensus seems to be the the DHX Air is inferior to the RP23.

I've recently swapped the RP23 for a Roco TST R coil and apart from the extra weight it is better in every way.

How much do you weigh and what psi are you running in the shock?

I would'nt bother with the dhx tbh-the rp23 is just a better shock.Talk to mojo about getting it shimmed to suit your bulk.Or coil.

Can i just ask how much you weigh?
Also is it fitted with the RP23 HV shock (high volume)?
I seem to remember that the HV shocks have a tendency to blow through the mid strike very fast if you are larger that average.
There is a threat about it somewhere.
Might be worth having it custom tuned and swaping the HV can for a standard size one.

Not been out for a long time so currently 21st 7Ibs !!! riding with 300psi in the shock.

Looking at the reviews I think coil is the way to go mojo have a DHX 3.0 on offer, any thoughts?

Use a coil shock with tuning to your weight. As stated above a DHX air is inferior to a Rp23, however have built a dhx air for a 22 stone guy on an enduro .

As said if it's a high volume can switching to low volume will help as would tuning the compression shim stack, enough to make a big enough difference it's difficult to say.

DHX 3s are OK, although I definitely prefer my Roco to my DHX 5….

According to the TFTuned spring calculator you would need about an 800lb spring.

850lb 2" stroke!!!!It'll just be a lump of metal……

Yeah I think the highest I've seen is 700 or 750lb in that length.

Must admit ive never seen an Orange Five fitted with a coil shock.

yes, my intense has an 850lb spring on. Although, it is one of the later 4x full sus bikes that ran a coil.

Mojo site spring rates are given 800 x 2.3 Fox Steel Rear Shock Spring to suit 2" & 2.25" travel DHX & Van shocks.

I assume the 800 is Ibs but what is the 2.3 measurement?

2.3 is the stroke of the shock i think. Your best bet is to ring MOJO themselves.
Im having my shock tuned at the moment by them and they have been really helpful, as are TF Tuned.
Why are you looking to replace the shock?

I'm too heavy for the rp23, anything more than the local trail and it begins to bottom out! Hence looking at dhx 3.0. coil.

The 2.3 on the spring refers to the stroke of the spring, so with a 2.25" stroke shock you would be able to preload the spring a few turns.

If the spring is too short for the shock, if over preloaded to so it become coil bound/bottoms out before the shock does it can cause a lot of damage to the shock.
