Im assuming its some kind of general knowledge test thing, like 7 DIAW = 7 "days in a week"?

If the letters are sequential on purpose then they must represent either a list of items that are normally ranked (say, worlds tallest peaks or planets of the solar system listed in order of distance from the sun) or they are initials of words that are sequential in time or usage, say Kings of England (time) or Richard Of York Gave Battle In Vain (usage).

It wont be a "group" of words with no natural order. (unless you have mistakenly said "sequence" instead of "which one is missing")

But ATM I cant think of the answer, so Im no sodding use at all, sorry 😉

Where have you got it from? Context might (or might not) help.

I'd made the same assumption as Stoner, can't immediately see anything I recognise though.

It was the weekly question posed by my girls school letter.

It is a next letter in sequence question.

Struggling to see any pattern though

A colleague of mine had the same question posed by his daughter & she was stumped by it as well. He never got back with the answer, maybe he couldn't figure it out either.

How posh is this school? If it's some saying in Latin I just don't care.

I wish someone would work this out to put me out of my misery. I keep coming back to elements or planets by way of days of the week...

I really do not think it will be anything other than English.

Really did not expect it to stump the STW collective 😕

I was thinking they might be the initial letters of some kind of sequence. Like I dunno, sizes of champagne bottle or something, but that's too obscure for school.

Time to break out the big guns. I will ask my Dad.

I reckon it's something specific to the school or area

I was thinking that too uplink.

H M W ? In the case of my school would be D

I've had girlfriends called Hannah, Bridget, Mahsa, Rachel, Ursala, Yasmin, Suzi - and expect the next to begin with T

Is T the answer?

Best we can find is that there's a Dr. H.B.M Ruys

Ms Spoon suggests M.D.?

My guess would be D but my logic for this is poor at best.
When do you find out the answers?

Is that the repeated -6? I thought that as well, but figured the answer had to make more sense then that.

It's the repeated +11 after the second -6. Seems unlikely.

I think we're missing information.

Given that it's from a school and therefore shouldn't be too difficult, yet it's legged up the Internet Authority On Everything forum, I'd hazard that either it's referring back to some lesson your kid's had that she's not told you about or it's specific to the school / area somehow.

Reminds me of Red Dwarf:

H: Oi. What's happening dudes ?

L: Hi Hol.

H: Guess what ?

R: What ?

H: Go on, have a guess.

R: What is it vaguely about ?

H: No clues, just have a guess.

Rimmer and Lister look exasperated. Lister covers his face.

H: I knew you wouldn't get it.

one or more of the letters are wrong

If so it may be bombers time.

Although I've put a lot of thought into this, if it is because letters are wrong, it would have to be a couple at least.

Its obviously something specific to the school, by not knowing the answer he has clearly displayed that he has no interest in his daughters education. I expect he is now unable to answer as he has taken her off to an all inclusive hotel in Spain during term time.

I did wonder if the thread title was typoed. If it was H M B instead of H B M you could make more things from it.
