Ifour have released their Part 2 of the SurThrival Picture quiz. this time on Movies.
Try to keep direct spoilers off here for as long as possible, but please put as many cryptic clues as you can.
I've got to 45 quite easily this time, but struggling with the last few
47 first pass round.
Can't get the crystal ball, the soft toy and either the candelabra and jug or the rabbit picture
rabbit looks like a bit of a dodger.
So it does.
Ta!....48
45. Stuck on the bust, jug / candelabra, book with the eye and the good burger cup.
EDIT - The cup was too simple. Also stuck on the plate of salad...
Soft toy - zoom in. Ownership is important....
Soft toy – zoom in. Ownership is important….
Not that one. The other one, between the stripey baby and the pink bag
Also stuck on the plate of salad…
It's not salad. It's more of a vegetable stew.
Stuck on the bust, jug / candelabra
Not sure these aren't a single clue.
Not that one. The other one, between the stripey baby and the pink bag
Ah, sorry.
Cant think of anything cryptic for that...
Crystal ball: Sings "mystical gyration"
It’s not salad. It’s more of a vegetable stew.
Of course! Thanks. 47
Not opening that yet, it's just stopped raining.
The crystal ball was a prop in the film (held by the Goblin King if memory serves), the stuffed toy the central character in a Studio Ghibli anime movie which is hard to clue if you simply don't know what it is.
36 and I'm not getting in to it like I did last time, that caused me to lose sleep!!!
Some of these really are just "say what you see" aren't they. Like, I'd no idea what film the "Good Burger" restaurant was referencing.
50....thanks to Cougar and Google
40/50 and flagging a bit now. Nudge on the rodents please? I thought they were ROUSes but they're not, beyond that I've got nothing.
The two family portraits on the drawers are just one clue, yes?
Not Rodents....Nifflers
The two family portraits on the drawers are just one clue, yes?
Yes. As are the candelabra/Bust/jug combo
book with the eye
You just need to focus...and yodel.
Stuck on the bust, jug / candelabra
Your plea for help may have fallen on deaf ears
Not Rodents….Nifflers
Damn it! Ta.
Yes. As are the candelabra/Bust/jug combo
Helpful also, I've already got that then. Thanks both. Up to 43 now.
Missing:
Chameleon in Hawaiian shirt
Preying mantis with nunchucks
Barnum poster
Rabbit portrait
Hat and suitcase
... and, uh, presumably two more I haven't even realised were discrete clues.
Chameleon in Hawaiian shirt - cant think of anything cryptic.
Preying mantis with nunchucks - what film has animals that are also martial artists....
Barnum poster - You've got to know the film about him?
Rabbit portrait - If I needed to find the person responsible for preparing that for display, what would I need to ask?
Hat and suitcase - carried by the titular character.....
Si
Chameleon in Hawaiian shirt - It's a Western, sort of
… and, uh, presumably two more I haven’t even realised were discrete clues.
Checked the back of the door? Tick, tock.....
Chameleon in Hawaiian shirt – cant think of anything cryptic.
I thought that might be the case. Got it now via google.
Preying mantis with nunchucks – what film has animals that are also martial artists….
Ah! Got it. Thanks, never seen the film, I'd never have got that.
Barnum poster – You’ve got to know the film about him?
I do and I'd already tried that. Tried again and it worked, I must have typoed it and not noticed.
Rabbit portrait – If I needed to find the person responsible for preparing that for display, what would I need to ask?
I already had "artful dodger" from a previous clue up there. But it's not Oliver Twist and beyond that I've got nothing.
Hat and suitcase – carried by the titular character…..
Yeah, I don't recognise it, probably going to kick myself.
I already had “artful dodger” from a previous clue up there. But it’s not Oliver Twist and beyond that I’ve got nothing.
You'd remember his wife. She was hot.
Hat and suitcase – carried by the titular character…..
His nephew asked lots of questions.
He's a kid. That's his job.
Candelabra is stll a pain for me, even with the clues
Blue halo light?
is the cup of tea with the fry up or is that separate?
is the glowing book part of the eye book or are they separate?
Checked the back of the door? Tick, tock…..
Yeah, got that.
Completely didn't see the umbrella though. 47/50 now.
Completely didn’t see the umbrella though
Had a look out the window?
Candelabra is stll a pain for me, even with the clues
The main clue there is the far right object.
Blue halo light?
Blue halo most things.
is the cup of tea with the fry up or is that separate?
If it's separate then I've missed it also. I've assumed it's part of the same clue that involves the full English and the thing on top of it.
is the glowing book part of the eye book or are they separate?
It's not a book, it's a box.
You can zoom in for a better look, remember.
Candelabra is stll a pain for me, even with the clues
Ignore the candlabra. It's all about the bust.
Blue halo light?
It's not a light. It's a weapon.
is the cup of tea with the fry up or is that separate?
Part of the same clue, as is the salt and pepper and the nine iron.
is the glowing book part of the eye book or are they separate?
It's not a book. It's a box. It's separate from the eye book
Oh FFS. The other one I'd missed is the girl in the centre. You know, the single biggest clue in the picture that I've totally just looked straight through. 48 now, just the rabbit and the suitcase to go.
just the rabbit
The rabbit in the painting does not really resemble the rabbit in the movie other than being white and being a rabbit.
The movie also featured two very different ducks playing the same piano.
the suitcase to go.
The hat smells of candy
The rabbit in the painting does not really resemble the rabbit in the movie other than being white and a being a rabbit.
Oh wow.
It really doesn't, does it. The penny dropped, cheers.
Aaaaand I've just got the last one. Annoyingly I had the right actor early on, just guessed the wrong film.
Cheers all, fun that.
Finally got the bust clue. Thanks Perchy.
Good fun. Back to work...
i've only got the full english to go and I cant get it
ignore me, as soon as i posted that it popped into my head!
42 so far.
The framed picture of the beetle thing, plus the bust...I'm assuming those are the clues to the last 2 I need (and even then I've cheated by Googling!).
I said I wouldn't and I have and I'm annoyed with myself.
Pink arrow
Where's it pointing?
and the framed picture of the beetle thing
Looks like separate stages of the same thing.
plus the bust…
Da da da dum...
Blimey, those 2 were rather obvious!!! Bust (is it Mozart???) to go and my inability to sing and understand music isn't making your clue any more helpful...but I'll keep at it, ta.
44
45 and struggling Evil Dead is not a family film apparently.
Nope, I was barking up the tree with that! Now done, thanks for the clues...
36. But I don't have kids, so I'm a bit worried about what my movie diet consists of. I'll have to pretend I've seen the porn parody versions* so people won't think I'm a wierdo.
*I don't know obviously, but I'm sure they're out there.
45 and struggling Evil Dead is not a family film apparently.
It's not Evil Dead. It's more witchy than that.
Well my Last of us Part II is installed so I’m done.
49 down.
Stuck on the large beetle next to the duck.
48/50. No idea about the flying saucer with the two blue eyes (top centre) is from, or the big book with the eye on it leaning against the chest of drawers. Pobably not Pans labrynth.Arghh.
What does the beetle have on its back? and what would you get from it
Thanks, I need to learn to spell.
The flying saucer has components missing.
The book with the eye is a pair of magic words.
Honestly, I got the book with the eye by googling "book with eye movie." I'd never have got it otherwise.
Ah, I see. Creepy. I'm onto they're 2019 Fiction Addiction quiz now. Furlough eh!
Inicdentally, if anyone missed Part 1, the STW discussion thread is here.
48
Pretty stuck now.
47. Can’t figure out the suitcase, the pink thing against the wall or the claw thing coming round the door???
Pink think - which way is it pointing?
Suitcase - a male relative of a female deer?
Claw - Hey you Guys!
Spaceship - likely to be an electronic toy, but missing something and likely to say so on back of packaging. Steve Gutenberg was in it (I think).
Yup 48 without looking at clues. There’s the shield thing under the arrow and no idea where the other is.
Have you noticed the fish under the arrow thing drac?
49 down.
Stuck on the large beetle next to the duck.
49 down too but stuck on the picture of the beetle despite the hint on page 1.
For the beetle next to the duck what has the beetle got on its back? What's it used for?
Stuck on the large beetle next to the duck.
Has it got you going bananas?
Have you noticed the fish under the arrowthing drac?
Yeah found him.
Has it got you going bananas?
They mean the other beetle.

That’s the 48 I’ve got. 😩
Drac - the two clues you are missing are the shiny purple thing under the Barnum poster and the sweeping brush with the things that look like door handles but aren't
Cheers. I’m annoyed as I recognise the shield thing, the door handles I’ve no idea.
They are not door handles or door knobs. The second part of the clue is the besom - although the answer has it in the plural.
So obvious cheers.
Strange, I've got 49/50 and don't have the framed beetle picture (thanks for the clue wardee - something for me to go on) or the purple shield thing under the Barnum poster!
I'm missing the paint pot and the pile of guinea pigs, no clue about the first, thought the second might be g-force but it doesn't work.
All help gratefully accepted!
Cheers. I’m annoyed as I recognise the shield thing, the door handles I’ve no idea.
The shield thing is a sort of gemstone. The "door handles" go with the broom.
I’m missing the paint pot and the pile of guinea pigs, no clue about the first, thought the second might be g-force but it doesn’t work.
The paint pot is a famous scene from the film in question, the film itself is nothing to do with paint.
The guinea pigs aren't guinea pigs, they're a fictional creature from a film full of fictional creatures.
Strange, I’ve got 49/50 and don’t have the framed beetle picture (thanks for the clue wardee – something for me to go on) or the purple shield thing under the Barnum poster!
It did this to me when I created an account to record the guesses (in Chrome). If you sign in to another browser (I used Firefox) it'll show correctly, or at least it did for me. Even logging out and back in on Chrome now it shows me a score of 51/50, I think a cookie is slightly on the wonk somewhere.
thanks Cougar, paint pot sorted, but I'm none the wiser with the fictional creatures from a fictional film.
Scratch that, your hint finally sunk in. Thanks again.
50.
Cheers for the last 2 clues Baron and Cougar.
I'm stuck at 49, although it seems like I have two to answer. Any suggestions for the 'sort of gemstone' shield thing and the red doll on the drawers? I'm pretty much drawing a blank at them.
