    Hi all.

Looking for ideas/inspiration for secure storage within my garage for multiple bikes. I’m considering building something that combines proprietary items that hold the front wheel in some kind of a bespoke frame/rack but I’m open to ideas

    Any thoughts?

Wheel hooks on the wall works for me. At staggered heights so handlebars are apart from each other. 4 hooks for a about a tenner

I have 2 staggered rows of large hooks screwed into large 3×2 battens that are fixed to the garage wall. Rows are about 30 cm above each other so the you can get bike spacing of about 40 to 45 cm all front wheel up but similar spacing to fasthaggis picture above. I have the luxury of slightly more headroom on my wall. I think I used these hooks (or v. similar) at £2 each.

Or planetx do bike hanging hooks that are often in special.

    Steadyracks work well for me:

My advice is really think about positioning. I’ve moved mine (6 bikes) around loads for optimal positioning. Ie the bikes that you use often need to be accessible (ie be able to get them down without moving all the others). If you have some bikes you only use occasionally then they can be stacked more tightly with stuff underneath if you like. I stagger mine high-low and have all the bikes front wheel up. If you want to minimise the depth they take up then you can remove front wheels and hang by the back wheel only. That makes a big difference.

Steady racks looks good but they’re a lot more money. I’ll probably invest in some at some point since I’m a bit tight for space.

I used the sturdiest wardrobe rail and brackets I found screwed to the joists of the garage roof (one bracket per joist) about a foot away from the wall. Then big S-hooks on that, bikes have a loop of 1” Velcro strap put around the tyre then get hung up like coats. Works for every size and tyre width of bike, doesn’t scratch rims and you can either have them straight out or leaning off towards the wall. Can slide bikes along to make space if needed, and extra hooks for hanging other bits and bobs on too.

Wide MTB bars scupper spacing (as with any of these) so I turn them on bikes that don’t get used so much.
