Been wearing daily disposables for a while now, no problems and I've really grown to love the freedom/convenience they offer (compared to glasses). Now that I where them pretty much every day, I'm thinking about trying monthly disposables; from my understanding of these you just put these in and leave them in for up to a month, is this right?
Does anyone on the forum do this, ie. wear them for 30 days at a time, or do you take them out and clean them overnight?
Take them out each night and soak them. they're great, will be a lot cheaper for you than dailys. I think there are some ones you can leave in the whole time, but no experience of them.
i tried the monthly ones for a while but my eyes are too dry for them and I'd wake up in the morning in a bit of discomfort.
If they suit you why not but personally i'm not keen on leaving something in my eyes for that length of time - i've had scratched/scuffed corneas a number of times and its not something I'd want to happen again.
I get two / three weeks out of a set of daily disposables (though someone is bound to tell me its wrong), taking them out and soaking them each night......
Makes them go a bit further.....
I've used monthly continous wear lenses for about 7 years - I get on with them fine; don't cause me any problems and find them very comfortable.
Based on other peoples views and experiences however - I am fairly unusual.
I'd give it a try - waking up in the morning with perfect vision was amazing the first time !
I've got the baush and Lomb monthrlys that can n theory be left in for a month. My optician told me not to do it. I have left them in overnight wearing them continuously for 36 hours etc with no problems.
But I think it's regarded as bad for the eye's health to leave them in all the time. I to suffer form dry eyes and use the preservative free solution.
Thanks guys... worst case I guess I'll take them out every few days and give them a clean, still better than the dailys (not that they're much of a hassle)
Just ordered some... fingers crossed my eyes like them 🙂
have you ever accidentally slept in your normal lenses ? How were your eyes the next morning ?
I soak mine over night and but wear them way longer than just one month, normally until they are feel uncomfortable which can be anywhere between 3-6 months.

gunky & gross... hopefully this doesn't bode ill for my foray into a new type of lense 😯
i use the monthly ones, I think they are great.
i usualy take them out once a week for a soak and apart from that there are in all the time, its great being able to se things in the monrning.
they can feel a little dry in the mornings but that clears after a few mins, to speed up the process you can use some contact friendly eye drops. I tend to carry a bottle of drops with me incase they start to feel too dry, which only happens when im very tired.
good tip Mrchrispy, I'll do that 🙂
These look interesting:

Contact lenses you wear overnight that re-shape your eye so you can walk about during the day with "perfect" vision without lenses...
hmm - hopefully not; though stuff like that has never bothered mine 🙂 I even managed to wear a lens inside out for a whole month - the optician was particularly impressed when he did my eye exam ! If he hadn't noticed that the text on the lens was back to front I'd never have even known.
I'd recommend you get some lens-wetting drops too; if you are borderline then a couple of drops in each eye before bed and in the morning can improve things
i tried the monthly and nightly lenses, the were good, but started to suffer a bit of discomfort from 3rd or 4th month. trying out some new ones shortly which are a bit more expensive but should be more comfortable. Sometimes i despair with the staff at specsavers though, people be wary, admittedly iv got 3 months of 'free trial' lenses out of them (£60 worth) plus accidentally didnt pay for a sight test (£25), but the shop floor staff (not opticians) are not particularly well trained. One member gave me 3 different sets of prescriptions for my eyes in one conversation!
those 'Vision Shaping Lenses' sound pretty cool... can't seem to find a UK Optician that does them though?

I've been wearing monthly disposeable for over 10 years now (the ones that you take out each night and soak). I'm very happy with them. I've slept in them a couple of times - once drunk and once just somehow forgot to take them out. Both times, my eyes were a bit dry the next day but not too bad and they were fine the day after that.
I've toyed with the idea of monthly continuous wear ones out of sheer laziness really since the whole taking out/putting in routine isn't particularly complex but haven taken the plunge so far.
Clubber - you'll probably be fine then; that's about how my eyes felt on the odd occaision I slept in my old monthly disposables.
Just remember to write the date for changing on your calender; if you get on with them too well it's easy to lose track of how long you've had a pair in for ...
I always change lenses on 1st of the month so easy enough to remember or realise if I've missed it...
I used specsavers 2weekly disposable - take out & soak nightly, swap sets every two weeks. £15/month Direct debit.
I've found them very comfortable and easy to wear. I've slept in the,m once or twice and apart from dry eyes later in the second day, no real problems.
I guess from the range of experiences above, the best advice is to see if you can get free trial from the optician.
I have 2 friends who use the extended wear (day & night) lenses and both think they are brilliant. One has eyes that can stand up to anything so I am not surprised, but the other used to have loads of problems with 'regular' contact lenses and she loves these new ones.
I think she takes hers out and gives them a clean/soak every week or so, but I am not sure about the other friend.

I used them a while back, not the 30 day ones, think mine were 10 day. Initially they were brilliant, waking up and being able to see was great. But after a couple of months I started to get really gunky eyes and the contacts were really uncomfortable. The opticians couldn't see anything wrong but i went back to dailies and eyes were fine again. My optician wouldn't fit the 30 day wear ones because he'd seen a lot of eye ulcers due to them
Just looked it up, the ones I used were ACUVUE® OASYS™ with HYDRACLEAR® Plus, which you can wear continuously for up to 6 nights
for years I used the monthlies but found that my eyes dried out. My fault though as I was told about 10 hours max but would wear them from 6 to midnight. A few years ago I changed to those that you leave in for a month at a time. Brilliant. I take them out if my eyes get dirty or maybe full of sea water or something but on the whole they stay in for the month. no dry eyes either
Used monthlies (out and soak each night) for 12 years. They work great for me.
I use monthly lenses however I've had the set I've got in now for over 12 months. I soak them every night and I've never had a problem.
They will probably tell you that that is wrong but I bet there is little difference between the lenses.
Used monthly lenses for 20+ years, though take them out every night and soak.
Not has any problems until last year when I had a couple of eye infections(apparently caused by some Specsavers solution) and was advised by the eye hospital that you should not even keep the lenses in all day as your eyes need oxygen to function.
Wife was recently fitted with Monthlys by Boots. The variety that you can leave in for an entire month. Fitted told to come back in three weeks.
Once week later complete agony so went to see one of the Opthamologists at her work. He freaked out. The under sides of her eyelids looked like a 15 year old lad in the middle of an acne breakout.
Something to do with protein reactions (she's the doctor not me). As a result she's just had Lasik surgery as she was no longer able to wear her standard contacts.
Neighbours daughter by comparison ... no issues at all.
