We did acid house up to 1992 a while ago and it was amazing. So how about 1993 to 1997ish?

Arguably the golden era of the British club scene and of dance music in general – before it got too segmented and the coke took over.

Inspired by this almost forgotten classic popping into my head…

And an underappreciated funky acid monster…

I remember sitting down with some mate’s for a bit of a smoke with the Essential Mix on in the background and accidentally being treat to the first playing of Oakenfold’s Goa Mix, it never got better than that for me.

Goldie – inner city life, what a **** tune, holds up today and every day. Listening to the song you can clearly see the hustle of a big city but it drifts off to make you dream of golden sun kissed fields and for us riding a bike down through it at speed.

Higher State of Consciousness was one of the candidates for the intro post, never gets old eh?

If you’ve got 14 minutes to spare, this might bring back a few (hazy) memories.

Prefer rock/indie music of that decade though.

I feel this thread has unfulfilled potential, so here’s another minor classic from 1992…

A guy I know who used to be a 90s club DJ has recently dusted off his 1210s and made some mixes.

Many a night long forgotten clubbing but what will always stand out for me was the nights in between spent driving around with the lads listening to essential mixes on the 6×9’s 🙂

Hughjayteens-used to go there around that time with another dj who played there, Craig Stocks. We all used to go to Bowlers in Manchester where he played a set then ping it over to Wigan when he played a set near the end. Happy, hazy memories 8)

Thursday nights were trance at the Coven in Oxford. Friday nights were techno at Club UK in London. Both were always epic. But one of my most memorable 90s club nights was hosted by Roni Size and Reprazent in Paris (Les Bains Douches I think). At the start the room was full of immaculate but stationary French people and three red-faced Brits bouncing around. Then Reprazent decided to give the Frenchies a drum’n’bass history lesson, covering every classic tune since the early 90s. Within about 30 minutes the entire room was a heaving sweaty mess. Brilliant. For that reason:

I remember those years staying up late on weekends to listen to Essential Mixes and Pete Tong, even Boy George did a few shows IIRC. Wasn’t old enough to go out so it was radio only for me.

Never heard that Casual Sub track, it’s great. I used to play the original funk version during my brief DJ career – that one would have been better though!

Slam – Positive Education was possibly the second most-played track when I was clubbing in the mid-90s. And rightly so.

The most popular was of course…

Still gives me goosebumps listening to it while working at home on a Monday morning.

The ones I remember are de lacy – hideaway, Robert miles – children, josh wink – higher state, Greece 2000 – three drives and offshore by chicane. We’d belt them out on pirate radio haha!
