Michelin Wild Enduro?

Anyone tried them yet?

Looking to replace my WTB Convict with something a bit different and these look good.

Any thoughts?

Have the front 2,4 Gum X model, nothing short of superb. Proper size, proper casing and brilliant tread for U.K. ie equally happy in mud and not. Miles cheaper than equivalent Maxxis/Schwalbe (mine was £42. I think it’s superior to the Magic Mary.

Only downside is the rear model is not available anywhere but I reckon that will be really good too and very tough for hard riding.

As above, brilliant all round Front tyre.

Also the lighter wild AM is a really good tyre if u don’t live something super rocky.

I’ve got a convict as well. The Michelin has better corner grip. About same braking grip. All front tyre comparisons.

We’ve been very impressed with some of the other Michelin tyres (good compound and strong carcass without being too heavy). Only downside was they were impossibly tight to get on rims with a shallow centre well. I had to give up on Crests but managed OK with DT and Mavic.

Same here on DT 511 went on by hand and went up tubeless first time and kept pressure.

How do they come up size wise against say a 2.5 Maxxis?

For the record, went up 1st time,tubeless (Joe Blow) and fairly easy to fit on an EX471 rim.

Had my 1st proper ride on this last night and, safe to say, it’s the best front tyre I’ve ever had (compared to similar conditions).

Rolls really well, much better than the WTB Convict and almost as good as a DHF, but the grip when you drop it over is just immense.

There’s a couple of sections of fast, flat corners and everything else I’ve tried gives up grip this kept gripping.

Over rocks it never missed a beat either and on soft, loose soil/loam it just dug in and went where it was pointing.

Looks, and sounds, a very good front tyre.

Big fan here of the Michelin Enduro casing stuff.  Winter is the Wild Mud which have survived 2.5 winters and only one puncture (piece of fence wire) at 18psi over Sussex flints! and the Wild Rock performed very well on Dartmoor.

Might try and source a rear when my SE5 dies. These look good.

It’s it just the casing that differs between the AM and Enduro?

Thinking AM front, Enduro rear could be good.

Don’t think the rear-specific Enduro is available yet. This is a front-specific tyre. They do 2 different compounds, Gum X & Magic X.

How are people getting on with these long term?

Got them front and rear. Really good levels of grip very confidence inspiring and times on strava are getting quicker. I’ll be replacing them with the same. Had magic mary dhr2 combo previously.

Eventually found the rear to go with the front. Very good setup but not sure the rear is as grippy as I would like. The other concern is the front tyre started to perish pretty quickly ie cracks in the knobs which was a bit premature.

Be a shame if they don’t last longer because otherwise on balance they are excellent and miles better value than other makes.

Still loving mine, been really impressed with it in the mud too.

Anyone able to share difference in gum-x and magic-x from a longevity Vs grip point of view?

I’ve been running the rear for about 5 months now  I used to run the Wild Rock R reinforced which is a great tyre but these beat them hands down for grip and rolling speed. I’ve paired it with a Magic Mary S/G on the front this combo sticks like Sh#t to a blanket. When the MM gives up the ghost I will try the front specific Enduro though.

Can anyone who’s running these measure how big they come up? Width of carcass and width of tread at widest point would be really helpful. They look pretty chunky and not sure if they will fit in the rear of my frame.

If they will fit no where has stock of the rears at the moment but that’s a different, and hopefully temporary, issue.

MBR didn’t rate them on their mega bike test….they’re getting a cult following in my riding group, myself included, we ride the same trails in the same conditions as the mbr crew too and find them amazing.

Am currently being drawn to some hillbilly for the slop now though.

Mark, I’m pretty sure they are a genuine size. Will measure one in a bit for you.

Thanks that would be really useful. Currently running a 2.3 DHR so expect it will be a bit wider, hopefully not too much for my non-boost frame.

I logged the sized on an EX471 but now on a 511 rim and similar sized to the measurements on there.

Comparing to my own measurements the Wild Enduro seems about the same width as a 2.35 MM and just about 4mm wider than my current DHR 2.3, so should fit fine. Now just need to find somewhere with stock of the rear.

Found the grid compound to be pretty hard and the side walls a bit wimpy, much prefer the shorty. The blck dmnd casing is supposed to be a softer compound ?

I’ve got them front and rear, gum (x)? Can’t fault them so far.

Am liking the Hillbilly 29×2.6 Grid Gripton (it’s really a 2.4″) a lot. Seems a stickier compound than the matching Butcher I have on the back.

so between a hillbilly mary and this what are the pros / cons ?
