I've not got a maglite one, but did pick up one of the tesco 2 D cell jobbies earlier this year to keep in my van for work, would recommend one to you, but I think they've stopped making the D cells now (I got mine for less than £9).

I take a "walking stick" - invaluable for, well, keeping me upright in the mud of course officer! My dog is a Dobermann, guess that probably helps (me to see) too!

I've got a 2D cell Maglite, you don't need anything bigger, plenty of light (for a non LED torch), not too heavy, can be slipped into a pocket easily.

The 3 or 4 cell D maglites are too big & heavy IMO
