My son is needing a room to rent in or around Aviemore from September. He has employment at Glenmore Lodge, and references from same house he has lived in for last 3 years in Edinburgh. Looking for long term rental. Biker, walker, nice chap (I would say that). Non-smoker, no pets, but probably too many spare parts and tyres…

I have already been in contact with scotroutes, we are already asking in some facebook groups.

Anyone else stay locally or have ideas of rooms which may be coming up?

Does he have a car, or looking to stay within walking/biking distance?

Car or van, yes, so can commute.
In Aviemore is the preference, but other places considered.

A winter in a van is possible, and it’s fall back. But he doesn’t have a van currently, he’s not going to buy an expensive one, and a house is a more social, warmer and better way of spending an Aviemore winter…

Don’t want to state the obvious but Aviemore is  the hot spot. If he is mobile why not go for Kingussie or Grantown. I’m always amazed how quiet Kingussie is compared to Aviemore.

Do they no longer do accommodation for their gofer staff or is that just for their “they arent called nightwatch now but we keep calling them that”” year long scheme people?

Has he asked the hr department to see if any of their staff are looking?

    I will ask around.

Kingussie is ok but “everything” happens in and around Aviemore. That includes the more serious end of mountain biking at High Burnside. The question is; how much of your life do you want to spend on the A9?

There’s also winter commuting to consider (though it wasn’t much of an issue last winter).

Got a friend in Aviemore who’s grown up son used to stay with him but has moved to Aberdeen….might be interested in a room rent.

House shares for young outdoor instructors seem to be pretty popular there – I’ll ask around with the freelancers I work with. It might also worth asking in advance if him getting there if there are any shared unofficial staff lodgings with a room coming vacant soon – it’s a pretty transient mob of folk coming and going.

There is no space at Glenmore Lodge – he’s lowest of the low, not the Night watch scheme etc.

    I echo scotroutes – Aviemore is where it’s at for a 23yr old….

    Cheers convert.
