The latest iOS update does not want to play ball with virgin media superhub 2 users. WiFi is continuously dropping out. Anyone else suffering from this infuriating problem? It has been discussed on both Apple and Virgin forums and seems to be widespread. The only solution it seems is upgrading to superhub 3. Couldn’t have happened at a worse time for us as we had a vsmart wireless boiler control fitted today and we can’t get it to work properly. If you haven’t updated to the latest iOS version I would hold off if you are a virgin media customer.

Personally had no problems. I have got most of my house setup over a different router as the super hub 2 range is garbage. I used this one if your interested.  https://www.amazon.co.uk/Edimax-BR-6208AC-Wireless-Ethernet-Extender/dp/B00LP8PGS2/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1532560465&sr=8-9&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=edimax

No issues here either with 3 devices.

Stick hub into modem mode and use a better wireless router to serve the home network. Virginmedia hubs are not well regarded for use as routers.

I wonder if this is the dual band issue popping back up. Do they transmit both Wi-fi frequencies over one network?

If so then make two separate networks in router settings that may help.

Can you give (or point me to) an idiot's guide for doing this?  My Virgin box needs rebooting on a daily basis and it's getting old 🙁

Yes. Exactly the same problem. iPhone SE and Hub 2. Drops out continually. Though it was just me. Even disabled WiFi this morning.

The additional router for wifi connection is fine, but I'd rather not have to have two boxes. One should be fine!

Keep us updated Thorpie.

The hub has been really good for me up to this iOS update. There are over 20 pages on the virgin forum regarding this problem. The superhub 2 isn’t going to get a firmware update and the only permanent fix is a superhub 3. The internet works fine but WiFi with iOS devices keeps dropping out. Some people came up with what they thought were solutions  (WiFi extenders helped) but the problem still exists and it also exists in the iOS 12 beta software as well. The problem disappears with Superhub 3, I have one coming Monday so I’ll let you know!

I like the way that Apple updates iOS and the problem is the Superhub 2.  What have Apple done that makes it not work now - I assume that all other devices to function correctly?  Have Virgin implemented something wrongly - or is because some of the standards are a bit vague.  We have a Superhub 3 and no iOS devices, so I'm being smug.  I'm also getting close to adding a better router as the Superhub 3 is a bit feeble!

No idea, I’m assuming the two don’t consult each other first. The problem is just with superhub 2.

I don't want to give anyone any false hope, but I've been having a bloody nightmare with mine, I reboot the hub, reboot my iPhone, spoke to Virgin (no known fault - BS).

In the end I went into the wi-fi settings, turned off 'Auto-Join', turned it back on again and it's been fine for a few days.

Superhub 2? It's a while since I did it as we're now using the ever so slightly suspect Hub3 with the dodgy intel chip.

Modem mode instructions

Note that the IP address to access the modem set-up page changes and you need to use only the ethernet socket nearest the WAN coax on the hub for your router. Plug the other cable end into WAN socket on router

Power everything off.

Plug PC into new router (any of the ethernet ports 1 to 4 (or 6))

Start modem (hub).

Wait for lights to stabilise (check what to look for on your version, hub 3 the light goes pink).

Power on router. Wait for it to stabilise.

Fire up PC and set up router with web interface for the router. Check instructions for how to do this and manufacturers forum.

There's a whole host of things to keep you amused.

If buying a new router check when the last firmware update was released. Some manufacturers don't update very often/at all. You don't want to become part off a bot network. (Check for "VPN Filter" malware updates from late May this year, anything older is likely to get infected with VPN Filter.

Both myself and the Mrs have had endless issues for the last week or so with the WiFi. We’ve got a Superhub 2. Other devices are fine, it’s just our iPhones that are running really slow

It seems like Virgin have been mucking around too. The last fortnight there have been drops in internet connection to the modem from 8pm onwards. The Gramophon box in the living room would lose connection first.

Tonight is the first night that (so far) there have been no connection issues.

Phone them. Tell them about it and from your research its sorted with SH3. Start muttering sky broadband etc etc. New SH3 should be with you in a few days.

Looks like Apple are looking at sorting the problem  now, it’s happening state side as well. Regardless, hooked up my super hub 3 last night and that has solved the issue!

Also having the same problem, it's really annoying. Might have a discussion and see about a superhub 3.
