I’m considering laser eye surgery, I know I need to speak to a specialist, but thought I’d ask on here before the salesman tries to sell it to me, so does anyone have any experiences (good or bad)? Thanks.

Had lasik done at moorfields 10 years ago. Effects lasted a couple of years. If I had the money I’d definitely look into having a repeat procedure–being able to see unaided was nice while it lasted.

    Really…… 2 years!

Several colleagues have had it done and been very happy with the results. One of them had his done at least 8 years ago and is still happy with the results and no need for specs/lenses.

Had it done 21 years ago and still have perfect distance vision ( I’m in my mid 40 ies so reading glasses will probably be needed soon.

    Best money I ever spent.

Had my eyes done 12 years ago by boots . Still as good as the day I had them done. Don’t even need reading glasses and I’m 45.

I’m 2 years since my surgery and only regret is not doing it sooner. Overwhelmingly positive for me!

A friend had it done 5 years ago, went wrong, almost lost the sight of one eye (he can now see out of it but he describes it like being underwater).

And in the aftermath, he had to take eye drops every hour (IIRC) day and night. He spent a week in hospital and apparently he was in tears by the end with the sheer exhaustion brought on by being woken like that all the time.

Mrs had it done 4 years ago. Still has better than 20_20 vision.
She says she’ll never forget the smell though…

People think laser surgery is a magic cure to bad eye sight. It’s not, it’s simply like wearing permanent glasses. If you need new glasses every year then you’ll need repeat surgery every year. My glasses prescription hadn’t changed in five years so I went for the treatment. Three years later I’m still good to go.

I had PRK as I had a stigmatism (I think) that meant I couldn’t have LASIK.

The first 48 hours after the procedure were terrible. I was really photosensitive. To administer the eye drops, I had to lie in a windowless bathroom with the door closed.

I wore some kind of contact lenses that protect the eye for 2 days post-op.

After the 2-3 days, I was fine. I went from needing glasses to see the time on my watch to perfect vision. Even though the Dr said mine was one of the most uncomfortable recoveries he’d seen, I’d still have it done again if necessary.

Had it done 12 years ago. Worth every penny to get rid of the glasses.
Early forties now and need to wear glasses again for distance. Not so vain now-a-days so probably stick to glasses.
If I had the spare cash now, don’t know if id do it again,

Absolutely no regrets here, one of the best things I’ve ever spent money on.

MrsMC had it done at Moorfields 5-6 years ago – mates rates as she knows the surgeons PA. Originally got quotes from the “high street” people and got her mate to run it past her boss at Moorfields, and they just came to some sort of deal to get it done there.

Could have replaced my entire fleet of bikes for the (reduced!) cost, but it got her from -8.5 to -0.5. She loves it, no problems or issues with it, but then it is the top place to go. While she was sitting to be done she was queue jumped by a minor royal coming in for a checkup, and a “squaddie” who was being checked before being sent back to Afghanistan. Suspect the squaddie was not a normal one!

She wants me to get mine done there, but I would sooner:

    a) replace the bike fleet with all that money
    b) have another vasectomy before I let someone slice my eyeball open with a laser while I am still conscious. No **** way

I was ready to splash the cash a couple of months ago, but stalled when my wife noticed the graphs/results they gave us didn’t add up to 100%. Just makes me wonder if they have been tweaked slightly.

That was Optimax, so its on hold whilst I try somewhere else.

Also my eyes are too dry for contact lenses, so was wondering whether the type where they dissolve the lens and it regrows under a temporary contact lense (presumably what makecoldplayhistory had) would be more suited. Why did you go for PRK?

Its almost exactly a year since I had mine done at Optimax in Manchester.

    Best money I’ve ever spent.

Was -6 short sighted, had to wear glasses/ contacts permanently, couldn’t see bugger all without them.

Procedure was on Friday morning, eyes were a little sore at first, I went home, took some ibroprufen and slept. woke up Saturday right as rain. Was back at work Monday.

So liberating not having to fumble about for specs when you wake up. Lying on couch or in bed with my head on a pillow being able to see tv, but best of all not pissing about with contacts on holiday in and out of the pool n’that. Also skiing and biking… Seriously can’t fault it

As an aside, my mate is an army officer and he said that tons of squaddies have had it done. I think he might be told me that the army was financing it for some of them – but I’m not sure (I was very drunk).
