I like the ones round Ullswater like, waterside house farm in Pooley Bridge and Gillside in Glenriding.

Wasdale Head ? Might well be National trust, it's been a while since I've been. Lovely campsite and much quieter than most other places.

There was a time when you couldn't book in advance, you just had to turn up. Maybe that's changed now.

I've been to Waterside Farm two years running and we will probably be heading back there again in June. Stunning location on the banks of Ullswater. The other site I've always enjoyed is Fisherground near Boot.

Basic one near Loughrigg Tarn, the National Trust one near Torver, Coniston.

I just stayed at one right in the centre of Keswick over the weekend. Just turned up on spec and they had some pitches. Great location, nice clean campsite on the side of Derwent water and seemed pretty quiet to me.

I like it here...right at the bottom of castle cragg. First place I ever camped out with me dad. 🙂

Gillside in Glenriding.

Once got turned away from there with my 8 year old son on his first camping trip during a bank holiday weekend. There was clearly space, they just didn't want to give it up for a 2 man tent.

I camp in the grounds of Hawkshead YHA.

Showers and Breakfast

Ride up into Grizedale in 10 minutes

Then use of the self catering kitchen to knock up a Curry

Turner Hall Farm in the Duddon Valley is a very quiet site.

Have you got kids with you? If so fisher ground in ennerdale is spectacular!

Castlerigg Farm. Spectacular views of the Skiddaw fells from your tent. Lovely wooded walk down to Keswick for dinner n drinks (taxi back) 5 minutes walk to the stone circle and immediate access to the cheeky start to the borrowdale bash..or for a walk over Walla Crag.
