Has anyone managed to get one of these from an LBS?
My bike is built up from a mixture of new and used parts and I don’t have a receipt for it.
Just renewed insurance and they suggested getting a valuation certificate?
I feel a bit cheeky asking an LBS.

I’ve sent plenty of LBS’ list a price for providing such a service. £10 is the going rate. Personally I’d write down all the components and their RRP, take that in with you to speed things up and ask if they agree.

Ask the LBS, but you will probably have to pay for it.
Herself paid £20 for an insurance valuation for her Madone last year.

    Great – I don’t mind paying

I had one made up for my Merlin road bike, but when my Propel was replaced, a photograph and list of components was sufficient. I think much depends on how recent your bike is.

On a new-for-old policy, if parts are not available, then an LBS will provide a quote for equivalent (that was my Merlin). Insurance companies will try and do the same, the issue comes when you want the money rather than the “equivalent” bike. Everything on the Propel was available off the shelf (I bought it as a frame only option and built it up), so I replaced it with a full bike.
