I'm lovin my Scandel 29er (SS Ridgid) so much and riding my Giant XTC so little I'm thinking of flogging the Giant and getting a second 29er

I'd be after a lightish 80-100mm travel geard hardtail £1000ish budget
Depending on what I'd get for my giant:
Giant XTC SX, Easton XC Two Wheels, mainly XT, Hayes Stroker, Magura Durin 100
spare mph brakes, Spare wheels, & several sets of tyres

any suggestions?

Giant are releasing a couple of XTC 29ers nest year. I also really like the look of the 2010 Scott Scale - http://www.feedthehabit.com/mountain-biking/2010-scott-scale-29er-hardtail-revealed/

I've also seen a few online shops selling Haro Mary XCs for less than £700, which look really nice.

Specialized do some nice ones now (i have a 29er Rockhopper but that may be a bit heavy for your needs) as do the usual suspects - Gary Fisher, Marin, Niner, Salsa, On-One etc. As mentioned above, the Haro Mary can be found for around £660 in the sales (Triton cycles list them on their website).

It seems that more and more companies are coming into the market so the choice is starting to get difficult. Rocky Mountain have one now as do Giant although i doubt they will be easy to get hold of in the UK this year. It all depends if 29er carry on growing in popularity in the UK like they have in the US.

Singular also do a geared Swift in a lovely candy apple but beware you might leave the scandal unloved too 😀

I do like the look of the Giant especially the alloy/carbon frame if they end up making that one, scott and the new specialized ones look good too
all are probably a way off though especially in the UK

bouncy forks are an option, but! I don't want to be changing forks/groupsets
all the time on my scandal as I'll still want to do the SS thing too
also aren't the new scandals all alloy now and not scandium (onone margin boosting)?
so a bit heavier and a harsher ride

I'll have a look into GF, Haro and salsa

any niner riders about?

I'd put gears and Rebas on the Scandal and buy a Swift for SS rigid fun.

Or if money is no object, build a bike up around a Niner Sir9 - never ridden one but they look lovely 🙂

I have just sold a SIR9 (made a mistake and went too big on sizing). Beautiful ride though. Kept it for 2 years before letting it go.

Handles everything I could throw at it, in fact the harder and faster, the more fun...

One thing, it has a 72deg HTA which can be a little twitchy on the downs
