I've had 1 complete bike, 4 frames, 2 pairs of forks, 3 pairs of wheels, 3 sets of disk brakes and various bits of drivetrain so far this year.

Just don't tell my wife...

I change it when the frame fails, which is what has happened to the last two I owned.... each lasted about 7 years.

Having just spent a load of money overhauling my bike, I'm thinking I'd be better off just buying a £600 bike every year and run it in to the ground

Triggers broom.. which seems to equate to roughly once every 7 years..

If I hadn't needed to sell my helius AM i wouldn't of sold it for years and years, as it is when I get back from africa I'm going to build up the exact same bike as I still have the original drawings.

Though this time I might get a pinion installed...

My MTB has been going since 2005, subject to wear and tear and brief dalliance with a Blur

My road bike I've had since 2008 and is still great, but a proper audax bike would be nice, to take mudguards and a small rack.

My commuter gets changed about once a year either due to buying the wrong size, or the job/office changing so swapping from road, to off road or a bit of both. Current Kona Dew is now a year old, struggling to really it though.....

I'm now happy with my 4 bikes (road, winter hack/shops, h/t, f/s) - but each bike I change about every 5-10 years.

My steel hardtail is on it's 3rd incarnation from when the frame was built in '94.
I went to f/s about 10 years ago and am curently on my second one.

So it means I change a bike about every other year.

Changed loads over the years, in fact i think i have single handed managed to fund my LBS owner in his supply of alpha roma's, due to my habit. Garage has remained stable for last 3 months! Having sold single speed and replaced with a full suss.

Been running the same MTB since 2005 with no plans to change it. Before I went custom built...probably a new bike every 18 months.

I once had a bike for three years!

It's also about three years since I bought a complete bike, but I've been through a few of most things since then, and all that remains of that one is the handlebars.

Most of my bikes are triggers brooms, probably on an aproximate 2 year cycle based on the frames.

Bought the Carrera in 2003, DMR frame in 2005, (bought a road bike in 2006 and the Sanderson in 2008) 456 frame in 2010, bought the Pitch to upgrade to FS from the 456.

Having a bit of a clearout this winter though, too many part built bikes/frames/forks lying arround.

I never sell them. So I currently own 9 bikes that have been gradually acquired from 1998-2011. (Others before that time were stolen)

It's a captive breeding programme.

The frequency of bike change seems to have gone up as i get older. My 1st mtb got nicked shortly after purchase but its successor lasted years and I still have the steel Marin I bought in 1994 to replace that. However I have had 2 new bikes in the last 2 years, not instead of, as well as and I already find myself looking for another!
My theory is that it is my only hobby so why should I put up with having something merely adequate. Unfortunately my wife thinks that every one needs one bike in a life time!

New frame every six to twelve months, but generally the same bits of the previous frame! It's like having a new bike kind of!

Generally I change the frames when they break, have been known to buy an additional one every few years. Parts tend get upgraded/replaced/trickled down to older bikes whenever I spy a good deal and have funds.

Oh just remembered I changed my battered but unbroken inbred this year, it was 7 years old.

bikes since starting uni...
-Dawes shuniah (unsold, now just frame and forks)
-merlin malt 1 (unsold, complete)
-24seven dh (sold)
-gt hans no way rey (unsold, never selling, etc)
marin quake (complete)
- cougar joey mcloughlin (frame, forks, retro gear.. dismantled)

it's pretty rare that i have more than 3 functioning bikes. I guess i tend to get a newish one every 2 years. I should really sell the merln and dawes, sentiments wont let me however

I often change bike every few hours but I don't ever get rid of bikes or replace them for no good reason.

Why did you need to sell it?

Difficult question. I have had 3 new frames this year but all have used some parts from bikes I have had in the past so not really that often or indeed too frequently depending on your point of view.

Had the same bike for over 4 years now. Mind you, it is on the third frame, and fifth pair of forks.

Had my Kinesis since 08 or 09 I think, brakes are from 01, wheels are circa 05, forks 05, and the drive is replaced yearly or as required. Gets chanegd when justified or when broken.

Downhill & street bikes on the other hand when I ahd them were a completely different story although I actually added to the collection rather than replace

After an initial period of hectic buying and selling when I first got back into riding, my bike habits have settled down nicely. Had my Enduro SL for almost 4 years, although I've swapped the forks and shock. My road/commuter bike is about 10 months old and am very happy with it, so can't see me swapping any time soon. The N +1 rule may not actually apply to me.

For now..........

trigger's broom is a new one on me obviously never watched enough Only Fools and Horses (must have been drinking / dancing when that one was on)
- Theseus' paradox works for me better.

So I can now say I pretty much own 3 trigger's brooms.

Ahhh.. was so faithful to my dear old '91 Eldridge Grade. After the tears and tantrums when it was stolen in '97, I was seduced by the weight-weenie scene and remained attached to my M4 S-Works for a few years.
Then I discovered STW and the Classifieds.. and basically not been the same since: yep, a self-confessed bike-swapping whore! Currently have SIX bikes. The two main MTBs being a Cotic Soul and Pipedream Torero 5.5. Had these a year or so now, so my eyes are definitely starting to wander..

Kona Stuff
Dialled Holeshot
Cotic BFe (medium)
Cotic BFe (small)
Fuji track
WeThePeople trust
Mutiny Cosmotron

All in the past few years. But I tend to just swap frames out, and upgrade components as I go over time. The Kona was the only complete I bought.
