Friends with young children tend to wolf down their food.
Other people I know probably eat breakfast and lunch fairly quickly, maybe taking a bit more time over dinner.
My father and uncle would chew every mouthful and take an age to eat any meal, unfortunately this is how I eat. A sloth would be faster. It’s a bit frustrating to say the least.
I dont eat, I hoover! I may do that “chew” thing now and then, but you have to be careful with such antics as it can cause unnecessary wear on teeth and delays the yummy bits from hitting my cake belly
Worry not ..you aren’t alone and I have always been told that this is the correct way to eat & digest your food ..a sloth is a good analogy for me too as my name is Neil ( dfs advert )
I try to eat more slowly – I know it’s better for you, and it seems silly to go to all the trouble of cooking a nice meal, pouring a glass of wine to enjoy with it – and then hoovering the lot up in about 3 minutes with 98% of the wine still in the glass…
I’m fairly quick, but slow enough to enjoy what I eat. I have on occasion been known to put my knife and fork down though usually when picking up a wine glass.
I eat with my mouth closed though, which is the important bit.
I have been known to fit an entire pack of ginger biscuits in my gob in one go, and then eat the lot without spilling any precious ginger crumbs of joy.
*I am the human personification of Shreks’ dining habits 🙁
I’ve always been a terrible wolf-er of food and its gotten worse of late. Since I started working in film the lunch hour is a really valuable opportunity for my department to do any work thats noisy so I’m the habit of chucking a meal down me then getting on with work that I’ve been anxious about all morning.
The last couple of jobs that hasn’t been necessary and I think its the first time I’ve experienced a whole lunch ‘hour’ uninterrupted. Lunch itself barely occupied a few minutes of it still.

My eating has been described as ‘inhaling’ by parents and past girlfriends. One of my regrets in life was not attempting to capitalise on this by entering speed eating contests.
Terrible way to gain weight too I’m told – by the time the ‘I’m full’ single reaches my brain I’ve finished, had desert, done the dishes and sniffing around for chocolate.
i’ve always eaten too quickly, and it’s definitely why i’m overweight too. despite knowing this, i find it almost impossible to change. i need to make more of an effort to be better. at everything.
I used to wolf it down. now I chew a lot more and take my time.
Me, too, though I can still forget and just go ballistic on something like a block of cheese and a large bag of crisps, or the apple crumble pie I made a few days ago – meant to eat a small spoonful but polished off three slices.

This is me to a T.
Mrs P is much slower so I’m always waiting for dessert, but then somehow she nails her dessert in half the time I eat mine.
I find I’m the last to finish when out with work mates yet with family it always gets commented on how quickly I eat so I can’t win :p Personally I think I eat too fast, I’m sure I’d end up eating less volume if I slowed down and gave my brain a chance to register my stomach was full.
