- Hotrock 16 for 3 year old.
I’ve got hold of a like new one second hand and I’ve been through my parts bin and made it tubeless some monkeylight carbon bars and Thomson stem which has been great to lower the weight I’ve also just bought some 16 inch full carbon forks to get rid of the hi ten steel should save about another pound. Any other upgrades to lighten up for a small girl. Replacement wheels maybe without coaster. Would have loved to get islabike or early rider but funds needed elsewhere. Any help or recommendations gratefully recieved. PinderPosted 10 months agodaddyoeMember

Thanks for the reply. Thinking of putting them riprock tyres on as not much heavier but will look the part. For a change specialized used standard sizing so being able to put old stems and bars on was great as the BMX bar and stem weighed 2 pound dead. Seat and post would be a good shout but there not overly heavy. ThanksPosted 10 months agoalexandersupertrampSubscriber
What did you do to the wheels to covert to tubeless?
Son has a Hotrock 20 and it is really heavy. Carbon bars and stem of Ebay for less the £20. As you mentioned the stock ones are mega heavy. Bought a 27.2 carbon seatpost but is a bit long so may fit it when he grows a bit.Posted 10 months ago
I used tesa tape from eBay which is a cheap way of getting stans tape 10 quid for 66 yards. And used some old valves I had in spares box. There a square base to them so probably a old roval set. I went round wheel 3 times with tape cut hole pushed valve in then before i put valve nut on i had some small washers slightley bigger than valve nut put two on then tightened the nut tight. Bit of sealant then track pump up had to retighten one not a bit but stayed up all good. You might get away with just valve nut but i think it would crush valve hole as rims are made for Schrader.Posted 10 months ago
Alexander bit late now as I was on holiday for last few weeks but I’ve just ordered some of these for another set of wheels so will probably be a bit easier on some rims and for a fiver great as spares if they don’t fit. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/uc/en/no-flats-tubeless-schrader-valve-kit/rp-prod94761?gs=1&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Chain%2BReaction-UK-PLA-PLA-All-MB-SE-Shopping%2BQLB%2BGeneric%2BMobile&utm_medium=base&utm_content=mkwid%7CsZ3bdrGN0_dm%7Cpcrid%7C161811074836%7Cpkw%7C%7Cpmt%7C%7Cprd%7C158539UKPosted 9 months ago
