Hope pro 5 points of eengagement

Im ordering a pair of the new pro 5 wheels next week for the ebike, and im a bit confused over this POE thing.
Theres now 6 pawls, and for the normal bike its saying 108 poe, but for the ebike its 54 poe. Now i was under the impression the ebike was more robust, so wouldnt that give more points of engagement rather than less as theres apparently more torque goes through the system

The other niggle i have ios the bike is 148mm boost. standard stuff. And in Hope's tech section listing the different hubs, it has 135,148 boost,150mm, 157 superboost and ebike. But it doesnt say if ebike is boost or not. Im guessing it is but theres too many variables here and i dont want to order the completely wrong thing.

If you look here on the exploded diagrams. theres the 148mm Ebike, but theres two set of diagrams that look to be identical. They have in the past made mistakes in these diagrams, and im wondering if theres a 148mm ebike and a 148mm boost ebike. And they've just accidentally duplicated one of the documents.

I need the exact part number for the wheelset to be given to the shop next week.

Is it because Fewer POE = chunkier teeth & pawls so maybe stronger?

148mm is boost either way. Could be the ebike hub has a beefier axle or freehub to deal with the torque.

I think that when they say points of engagement, what they actually mean is basically "clicks"- points at which the hub is locked up and engaged. But that you're reading points of engagement, you're thinking of the engagement at the pawl, points of contact. Two different things that can sensibly have the same name, but generally POE refers to the "clicks" version because that's more useful.

So in this case, I think the 108 has more points of engagement in the first sense, but less in the econds. While the 54 has half as many "clicks" but each click has more points of engagement between freehub and wheel, so it's stronger.

(imagine a pro 2 with a broken pawl spring, like they all had- it had 4 points of engagement in a 24 tooth ratchet. With a broken spring, it now has only 3 working pawls, so 3 points of engagement. But the number of times the pawls engage and lock up the hub is exactly the same)

Both versions have the same 54 tooth ratchet ring. The ebike version has 6 pawls that all engage at once. The normal 108 version has 3 of the pawls offset by half a tooth so you get twice as many points of engagement, but only half of the pawls are ever engaged.

What @GeForceJunky said

What bike do you have? Is your bike definitely boost?

The differences are:

Ebike hubs are 32h 148 boost only
Ebike free hubs are all steel versions
Ebike pawls engage all 6 at once rather that 3+3 as said.
Ebike hubs have reinforced shells.

@Ben
Thanks for that, makes it so much clearer. ๐Ÿ™‚

What bike do you have? Is your bike definitely boost?

Scott genius 920 eride
From the specs list.
" Alloy Frame / Virtual 4 link kinematic VLK
27.5" and 29" compatible / geo adj. / Boost 148x12mm
150mm travel / Bosch Gen4 / Integr. removable Battery
Tapered Headtube E2/Forkstop, Central Kickstand Mount
Range Booster Ready"

I'll probably email Hope to get the correct order number/details. LBS isnt an LBS as such and the owner is kind of doing me a favour, so I dont have to travel miles to the wheelbuilders to order it and have to put up with that god awful tar like coffee.
So I need all the correct details to hand to make the shops task as easy as possible.

Thanks for all other replies ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ™‚
