Hi all,

Got a creak on every revolution of a HOPE Pro 3 hub on Mavic Open Pro wheel.

LBS cannot work it out, I cannot work it out, so thought I'd test the STW massive ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, I have a creak > only under load

Bearings = Perfect
Freehub = Less than 8 months old, as new
QR = changing makes no difference to creak
Dropouts = Greased

EVERYTHING is fitted together as it should be, just a damned annoying creak every revolution.

Using a different wheel, the creak stops.

Any help, please!

Check the inner bearing on the freehub body again, that's usually the source of a creak in those hubs if they're gonna make a noise.

Remove the cassette and check the freehub body for cracks.

@yetiman, the wheel has just been re-dished/trued, had this issue both before and after

Jeez, every bearing and face is perfect. No cracks, nothing missing, nothing broken.

stick it on the bike: *creak, revolution creak*

Probably a daft question, but are you sat down when the creaks occurs on each revolution? I've just traced one of the noises on my bike to the seat tube clamp.
BTW do chains make cracking sounds?

Only under load, so yes, BUT said creaks goes when a different wheel is used, thus it can ONLY be the wheel. ๐Ÿ™ cheers all

I have this same problem and have concluded its to do with the axle/Qr/dropout. With a standard QR it was creaky, then i swapped it with a 10mm thru QR and it got less bad. I slammed some grease in the swappable end caps (Pro 2 evo) and in frame drop outs, problem solved.
I think its a design flow in the hubs personnaly.
Friend had the same problem.

@cultsdave, sounds a bit of a faff, but cheers.

It does it prior to engaging and whenever I'm not freewheeling, so creaks regardless.

Is it the cassette interface with the freehub? Stick grease between the two.

Have you fitted the wheel on another bike and experienced the noise?

Stripped entirely, cleaned everything, greased QR face/frame and it appears to have shutup, at least on the spin down the street.

Will give a bigger report back after tomorrows ride.

thanks for the suggestions all
