    I've done file recovery before using free linux distros.

    Basic script is download the OS, burn to a CD, reboot from CD instead of hard drive, type appropriate commands, rebuild table.

    Sorry can't be more helpful – but can be done with perseverance.

    if it's a sony one, this is very useful and has worked for me in the past:
    Sony Memory Stick Recovery Tool

    i think it also works on general memory sticks as well, though can't remember. there are quite a few other free alternatives available.

    http://www.r-studio.com/ has helped me save files for other people.

    The free version will report what it can find (IIRC, it will get back files up to a certain size)
