Having bought a Jones bike and also talked to Jeff he is certainly an interesting character.
Here is his simple little flow test on various rims:
perhaps should normalized the heights of the valve tops, but still for a basic test interesting to watch and also to see how well one brand of presta with the core removed did also.
A win for the Fillmore valves out of that bunch. Nothing comes close without having to remove the core.
Yeah filmores are brilliant
but sadly don’t work well with inserts at all
but if your not running inserts they are a real game changer for me
just hope they come out with a solution so I can run them in the same with inserts in
i have been using the 76Projects valves and they would with inserts fine.
yup, got Project76s here. All good, cheaper than fillmores and also like supporting the wee guy
I’d have tried the 76Projects valves (I have a lot of their 3D printed stuff) but the need for an adaptor puts me off
Not everyone will need the adapter though. In the need I swapped the head on the only pump of mine that needed it
i have an adapter for the 76P valves but carry as a just in case need to use a non compatible pump - which so far has been once in 2 years.
also 76P has improved the fit of the valves and no no need to use lots of spacers next to the rim
Interesting I looked at the 76 projects ones before the filmores
can you easily push air through the 76 still with a insert In?
I found the filmores fine to put air in but getting air out was a nightmare, they just don’t sit right on the rimpacts etc as the poppet things struggles to push up against the insert
now just running normal rimpact ones and they are useless at putting air in
The actual valve is towards the top of the P76 ones, air then comes sideways out of the base. So they don’t have the same issue as Fillmores. For some reason the longer versions can’t be used with inserts, but that won’t be a problem unless you’re using inserts on aero road rims
