Can anyone recommend any decent pub, pizza, or even fish & chips place near to the Portsmouth ferry port? Or on the way there along A34/M27

We’ve got a night sailing so will need a meal before we get on the ferry.

    Thanks

Drop into Port Solent just before you get to Portsmouth proper. Free parking and a good variety of chain restaurants in a (for Portsmouth) pleasant setting. Or maybe The Cormorant Pub in Portchester and a wander around the outside of the castle.

We did that and went to gunwharf keys. Easy to park and lots of options.

The Osbourne View used to be nice, not been in a few years.

That’s probably not a bad call. There’s a couple of non chain places too and a new curry house tucked back from the water at the Harvester end.

Problem with most places in Portsmouth is you have to overshoot the ferry port to get to them. Horrible city to drive round (although better than Reading).

Off the ‘27 and over Portsdown Hill to the Golden Lion in Southwick. About 6-7 miles from ferry terminal.
Cracking pub with excellent beers and good food as well as a bit of history to it.
But check that they are open as they do keep ‘traditional’ pub hours.

We always use the Ship, just outside the port and OK.

    Thanks.

I forgot to say well be in a motorhome (Transit panel van) so we’ll need to be able to park it preferably within sight

Golden Lion is a Britstop pub so well used to having motorhomes.
You won’t be able to park in sight at Port Solent but it’s a popular place to park up and wait for ferries so again they are quite used to it.

I thought I’d come back to this in case anyone else is headed down that way

We got stuck in really bad traffic on the M62 and again further south and ended up getting down there >2hrs later than planned.

We ended up going the Hilsea Fish Bar on the A2047 as you get in to town. The fish & chips were lovely and fresh but be warned the portions were huge.
