What is the repair service offer? I have cracked the LCD screen in a crash, and its 'bled' so only about 25% of the screen is visible - but it still works! won't last much longer and i presumed id have to bin it if it bleeds much more. Do they repair for a fixed price?

My Foretrex was done for a flat fee of £56 IIRC. Whatever they would have done to it same price. They sent me a new one.

Have you updated the firmware as this happened to mine, I updated to the latest firmware and bingo it seems to be fine now.

they'll most likely fix the edge for free if it's still in warranty - it's a common fault

£46 for an exchange replacement, which comes with 12 months warranty
This is what I was quoted last week

mine is a totally different problem where it'll only turn on with a full reset
All becuase I left it on charge until I next wanted to use it, seems they don't like this

Definitely worth a phone call to Garmin.

Had a similar thing with my edge when it kept turning itself off on bumpy trails (yeah, I know)- started looking at prices for a replacement, as mine was out of warranty, but gave them a call anyway.

Told them the serial no. and they confirmed that there is a known fault with some battery connectors and that mine was a faulty one and would be replaced with a recon unit if I sent it back to them.

One postage cost and three days later - problem solved. Good luck

The Edge turning off is because the unit is made in 2 half's. The battery is in the bottom half and connects to the top via contacts, eventually the contacts wear and the unit looses power during a ride. The unit can be taken apart (info on the web). One thing to try is to compress the unit in the contact area (Directly below the USB connection). I use a piece of inner tube (20mm wide ish) wrapped around the top a couple of times really tightly.

My 60 csx had the same problem. Bending the 2 contacts sorted it out.

My edge 305 just started switching off.

I phoned up Garmin, and apparently mine isn't in the batch with the problem and it is £65.24 plus postage for a refurbished one. That is significantly more than $79. What a rip off

I'll have a go at repairing it myself, and if not put the money towards a 705
