I’m going to do some of the spring Gorrick races but i’m not sure which category to enter. I’m not going to be competitive, but don’t want to be miles off the back (i’ve only done 1 a couple of years ago and got dropped and came last!). I entered the morning one last time (30-39 expert or something, l’m 35). Should I be going for ‘open’ or ‘sport’ as opposed to the morning ones? fun or beginner sounds too slow.

check your lap times on Timelaps and see how that compares to other categories.

Fun and open are usually fairly similar at the front end but fun also encompasses a larger field with more slower / less stamina riders at the back end, being a lap shorter. But both are ‘non-series’ so if you had ambitions to get points in each event with a view to doing well overall you’d need to be in the sport or masters i think.

if you dont know and your not going to be competitive then go for fun or open depending on your stamina

    Go for “open”
