How much do you weigh? How hard do you ride? Where do you ride? What type of riding do you do? (elorate on trails and jumps) What is the standard of the people you ride with? How do you see your riding progressing over the next year (be honest).

I am 11 1/2 stone mate, ride red routes at the likes of Llandegla, will jump 6 inches just messing about and will arse around doing small drop offs, I would describe the riding I aim to do as hard xc maybe? but yeah just trail centres mainly.

thanks mate

I had an FSR XC Comp back in 2005, it's a good bike and very capable but its XC orientated. I upgraded to a 2006 Enduro the next year and it provided far greater confidence to push myself. The FSR XC will be fine for what you describe but something like a pitch would give you more confidence as it just feels a bit more capable when you point it downwards. It'll help you progress quicker if thats what you want.

thanks lads, rs - to be honest mate I was after a pitch pro size m, but the whole country has sold out mate, I cant purchase it from ebay either as I am using the cycle to work scheme.

I then started looking at the fsr xc pro, a guy in a bike shop was trying to persuade me to buy a stumpy, he said the fsr xc pro was too light and not strong enough!! But I do quite like them!

Thanks again

If you're looking for a pitch style bike (which sounds about right for what you are doing and might do) then why not look outside of specialized's catalogue? Commencal meta 5?

I would say the XC will be pretty much as strong as the stumpy, just cheaper metals and slightly different tube profiles if i recall correctly, at least that was the case back in 05 when i bought mine. You can always stick some pikes on the front of it which will help beef it up and maybe give you a bit more confidence riding off drops and stuff. Thats what I did to mine.
