Why do riders prefer thin racing saddles when you can have a nice thick comfy gel saddle? I know they might be heavy but I find them more comfortable!! When you’m ridin round ‘ere it’s brave and bumpy bedder to ‘ave a bit of cushion under y’ere buns!

Personally having borrowed my wifes bike complete with gel saddle I found it unsupportive, wobbly, unstable.

I prefer a firm supportive saddle to provide a stable based to sit.

Isn’t there a theory that saddles with lots of padding can put pressure on yer “God’s Seam” leading to numbness and erectile dysfunction?

That may be an influencing factor!

Also I can’t say I find my saddle uncomfortable for the most part. For the first few months of riding properly, yes it was a bit painful but sooner or later you toughen up.

Thin ones flex, mixed with decent shorts makes for more comfort

There’s an argument that it’s worse over longer rides if you’re sinking into your saddle more- more rubbing.
