In May I had the rear shock (Fox Float CTD Kashima 165x38) on my 2014 Turner Czar serviced for the first time (I had done a few air can services) which cost me £100.
I had 4-5 rides on it in June & then at the weekend jumped on it to find the shock bottoming out. The shock had lost approx. 80 psi.
I contacted the servicer who asked for it back & on receipt pointed out a chip on the body & a burr that had damaged the seal. I've been quoted £154 for a new body, service & shipping.
Before I fork out again are there better alternatives for not much more outlay?

Pretty much anything is a better alternative ime.
You can pick up Manitou Mcleods for £170 which are very well rated by users.

Agreed... The fox CTD is possibly the worst thing I have ever had the misfortune of spending money on. Even with a push tune it was rubbish and would dump its oil at the sight of any small bump. Terrible thing.... Should never have been released. Get something else.

Just to make the opposite point, I did the first air can service on my ctd this week - it's 6 years old and has never been opened.
It was in great nick, and it's never missed a beat, so I like it...

I was happy with my fox ctd.
If it was my shock I'd try and repair myself. Videos are on fox's website and spare parts are easily available.

Dickie - All the German shops seem to have them though I've not checked stock levels and don't know the size you need. Google search is what I used.

HoratioHufnagel - I was thinking of this. Fill the hole with superglue, smooth off, & do a seal change as Fox video?

Really it depends on budget pressures. As pointed out, a superglue/nail polish repair as for scratched fork stanchions combined with an aircan service to replace the seals will fix the issue for the least money. This is probably what I’d do unless I was unhappy with the Fox in the first place.
As to alternatives, I’m not sure I’d want to throw ‘new body’ money at such an old unit so probably would replace if you didn’t want to do a DIY repair.
Fox CTD’s do seem to have been marmite. I’m not sure if they were very variable quality wise or it was simply about tastes, I fitted one to my old Zesty in place of a standard Float and really liked it.
