[Closed] Fitting a longer rear shock?
Just thinking out loud here....
Last night whilst servicing the rear shock on my Pitch I noticed that there's nearly 30mm more travel available at the shock, so I could easiy fit a longer shock.
Now, it's a 50mm travel shock on there, giving 150mm (6in) travel on the suspension, so a 3:1 ratio.
If I were to fit a 215mm i2i shock (in place of the standard 200mm i2i) with a 62mm (2.5in) stroke, I'd end up with 7.5in travel and a slightly higher rear end and BB!
And I've already upped the front travel with some Lyriks by 20mm, so it would be fairly well balanced.........
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Anybody got a cheap Vanilla anywhere? ๐
(Not really, I don't have the cash right now, but I reckon it's worth a shot!)

I thought the Pitch was a 57mm stroke - at least mine is and that's what the manual says it should be.
Ohh, you could be right, I didn't measure the stroke.
I'd still get an increase in travel, just not as much.... about 15mm?
I put a longer shock on my nomad plenty of threads on mtbr about it. It raised the BB by about 20mm and has increased the travel to just over 7" no downsides that I've found. It actually pedals better as I always had trouble with pedal strikes riding through rough stuff.
I'd give it a go if there's space
Could be a winner for Goldtec if they make some new plates for the Pitch which increase the BB height a touch.
Especially if they did them in gold, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
No reason why it shouldn't work - it will steepen the head angle too though but that might be a good thing if you've already put longer forks on.
I did much the same with my 04 enduro - changed the shock from the standard 190 to 200 which made the head angle a touch steeper (but used the slacker setting on the link) and more importantly put the BB up a bit which made it spot on.
I also tried it with a longer stroke (57 compared to 50) which worked well too though was too much travel for my liking.
IIRC The Pitch was based on the geometry of the 06/07 enduro which had a second, lower-shock-mount that raised the bottom bracket. Surely putting on the longer i2i would just be doing the same.
Go for it and let us know the results.
Cheers Guys. I might look out for a used Vanilla and give it a go.... ๐
I've done it on a few bikes with good results - I like to run lots of sag and find a longer shock works well for me. Just make sure when you initially fit it, you do so without the spring fitted and then cycle the suspension all the way through it's travel; it can be real expensive otherwise.
Am I right in thinking the Pitch rear triangle has a bar across the seat stays? If so, that's the obvious place to keep an eye, but also down near the lower pivot and front mech.
