I’ve got my sabbatical booked for next year (4 weeks with the kids in the USA), plus hope to have a couple of other USA trips (starting with this Christmas, fingers crossed). I thought it might be cheaper to just get an annual policy, but the ones I’ve found specifically exclude mountain biking from their cover. We probably won’t ride a lot (my kids are ambivalent) but I do want to get them to experience some gondola/uplift action while we’re out there. I’ve previously bought specialist extreme sports type cover when I’ve known I’ll be doing DH/enduro type stuff, but that seems like overkill for a couple of days on basic trails out of a month long trip.

Has anyone bought family trip cover that includes MTB? Who with? Thanks!

It’s bloody expensive when we’ve got insurance for skiing and uplift mtb in the past it’s been close to £400 IIRc just for Europe.

Problem is that your essentially buying a years worth of mtb cover for all of you. That’s going to sting, a lot.

Have a look at Yellow Jersey, we have used them for years, even covered Abigale for racing in the EWS

Something to check is the number of days covered. One policy I almost got to cover skiing and biking holidays limited the number of days you could do “extreme” sports. Probably why it was cheap!

My limited experience is that it’s really expensive to cover mountain biking. When we went rock climbing in Italy MTB was the next rate up. Plus you had to cover the whole trip even if you were only riding some days

Depending on how high the cost of specific cover is, it’s worth checking out the insurance that comes packaged with certain bank accounts/credit cards. We have an amex platinum, gives full travel insurance for the family, car rental coverage, lounge access and hotel upgrades included in the (not small) fee. It works for us due to the amount of travelling we do
