    It just looks spectacularly boring.

I dunno about that, everyone see to enjoy seeing them go full chat at Hockenheim, and still do at Monza

Blimey. Yeah best driver / best car and all that but still. Lewis is driving as well as anyone I’ve ever seen. Absolute perfection. Shaping up to be a special season for him.

f1 drivers are nuts…. keeping the foot buried through Eau Rouge on warn tyres that only last month decided in similar circumstances failed catastrophically.

Not just Claire but the whole Williams family will step away from the Williams F1 team!

That’s quicker than I expected – I thought they’d see out the season

Sad but they need a shake up if they’re to get back to midfield.

Its no great surprise is it? I mean Claire Williams was on a shoogly peg when her Dad still owned the company!

I must confess to being somewhat shallow with regard to Claire Williams. She has expressed an admiration for Margaret Thatcher, which would ordinarily be right up there with uncontrollable flatulence and halitosis in my book but I daresay that she’s probably not too keen on me either.

On less flippant matters, I too am surprised that she’s stepping down so soon. The fortunes of her family’s team have waxed and waned since she became deputy team principal, I am sympathetic to the view that the wrong sibling was hired to lead the team.

I wonder what the atmosphere at Grove is like right now?

@richmtb Can I just say that ‘on a shoogly peg’ is a great expression! I shall use that in performance management conversations!!

George Russell in the press conference:

“I’m not sure if it has been announced yet but I’m going to be taking on a driver/manager role, becoming team principal!”

sad in a way, but needed doing. Can’t imagine what Frank will do now..Williams F1 has been his whole life practically – didn’t he live in the factory?

I would expect the team to disappear from F1 within a year or 2.

It’s an iconic brand. The new owners paid to own the brand because it’s valuable. They seem serious about keeping it.

Lando is walking away with the best helmet design championship!… 🙂

I would really like to see Lando succeed long term – he seems like a really quick driver, and pretty down to earth with it

Yes, Frank had a flat above the design offices.

I think the rot set in when Adrian Newey left and there was a bit to much style over substance from the replacements. They also had an awful lot of other activity going on in that period. As well as the normal race team and test team (which ran constantly back then) they designed and ran the Renault Laguna touring car teams, designed and built the BMW LMR and LMP cars with its own brand new office and factory on the F1 site (now the conference centre I think), and also ran a test team for Michelin who were returning to F1 at the time.

Busy times led to wavering focus that they don’t seemed to have recovered from.

Yeah it seems that they never really recognised how much top people are worth, both drivers and factory staff.

Agreed. Spoiler alert, I used to work there. There was certainly an approach that the team was the priority and perhaps that led to complacency with regard to people that had opportunities that could be explored outside of Williams.

That said it was brilliant working there.

    I miss it.

Good article here about the structure of the new owners – and even after paying their debts Frank and family walk away with a nice sum…

Who are the mystery buyers now in charge at Williams?

FFS, two Ferraris bookmarking three customer cars in 13th to 17th, with a four time world champ at the tail end of that, at their home race. Williams might have fallen far from the top, but at least they’re budget efficient about it.

Ferrari are having an expensive weekend of crashy wreckage…

Flipping between F1 and TdF, swapped to this just in time to see Leclerc slamming into the barriers.
