Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar (11,283ft/3440m)
Food on the trek is mostly vegetarian and so after a breakfast of cereal, bread, eggs and tea or coffee, it’s time to set off and follow the banks of the Dudh Kosi River. You will cross the Dudh Kosi twice by small suspension bridges before reaching the village of Monjo and entering into the Khumbu National Park. After crossing another suspension bridge the trek then climbs steeply for about two hours up ‘Namche Hill’ to reach Namche Bazaar at 3,400m. Namche Bazaar is a famous and prosperous trading town and is also the capital of the Khumbu region. The market is a fascinating spectacle with many traders crossing the border from nearby Tibet to trade their wares.

Day 5: At leisure in Namche Bazaar (11,283ft/3440m)
Day five is spent resting in Namche at 3,400m to allow your body to become acclimatised to the high altitude and thinner oxygen. A great option is to walk to and have lunch at the Everest View Hotel at 3,900m and then return to Namche.

    Day 06: Trek to Tengboche – (12,684ft/3867m) (B)

Amadablam and on clear days you can get the views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Amadablam means “Mother’s Charm Box” and is named after the little box that Sherpa women wear around their necks. It is also one of the most beautiful mountains in the Himalaya. Overnight at Lodge

Day 7: Trek to Dingboche (14,465ft/4410m)
After breakfast the day’s walking starts with an exciting river crossing via the high suspension bridge outside Deboche. It is a fast trip back down the valley to Dingboche for the night. Overnight at Lodge.

After breakfast you follow the trail from Dugla as it climbs steeply up beside the glacier moraine. After a few hours the trail leads to the small cluster of tea houses situated at Lobuje at 4,940m. Here the afternoon is spent relaxing and continuing the process of slow acclimatisation.

This morning, you can hike up the Kala Patthar for unobstructed views of Mt.Everest and its surrounding peaks. Most of the famous photographs of Everest were taken from atop this “bump” on the landscape. In the afternoon, retrace your steps to Gorakshep. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 11: Trek to Everest Base Camp and trek back Pheriche (13,907ft/4240m)
Leaving Gorak Shep the trail leads on to the rock and ice of the Khumbu Glacier for the three-hour trek to Everest Base Camp at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall. You might even be lucky enough to meet teams making an ascent of the mountain. Some expedition teams have spent up to two months at base camp waiting for the right weather conditions to climb the mountain but luckily you will return to Gorak Shep after a lunch prepared by your Sherpa porter team. From Gorak Shep it’s time to start your descent back off the mountain. The route returns to Lobuje and then a quick lunch break of salad, potatoes and fruit in Dugla before arriving at Pheriche to sleep overnight in the lodges.

    Day 12: Trek to Kyangjuma
The descent continues down the scenic valley passing through Pangboche and re-passing the monastery at Thyangboche before a steep descent of 1500ft/500m to the Dudh Kosi and then to Kyangjuma at 3,550m to spend the night.

    Day 13: Trek to Monjo
Each morning you feel fitter and stronger after descending to lower altitudes and thicker oxygen. Leaving Kyangjuma the trail crosses a suspension bridge before climbing the opposite side of the valley to reach Namche Bazaar. A steep 600m descent from Namche leads to another suspension bridge to re-cross the Dudh Kosi River to reach the small village of Monjo at 2,835m.

    Day 14: Trek to Lukla

    Climate:
There are two times of year when conditions are most favourable for a trek to Everest Base Camp, either in the pre-monsoon springtime or the post monsoon autumn. Although, it is possible to join Treks that run almost all year round. The weather you will experience on Everest is extreme and rather unpredictable so it is best to be prepared for all eventualities. Spring is the high season for trekking, but warmer weather can mean there is a larger cloud cover, which obscures many of the fantastic views that are part of this once in a lifetime trek. For those willing to brave the colder temperatures of autumn and winter this is not such a problem.

A large problem on Everest is that as you reach higher altitudes the oxygen content of the air dramatically decreases. At 20,000ft there is only half as much oxygen in the air as you are used to and by the summit oxygen is reduced to only a 1/3.
