His real name is Murphy,

Poor fella, back legs have gone and he can't get up.

Thought he might make 14 but what started as a wobble on Sat has turned into an uncomfortable distressing thing

13.5 years is a long time and he's been with me nearly everyday.

He is a brilliant dog

I will miss him

Sad, very sad news.

I know what that pain feels like.

Really feel for you. We lost ours late last year. Still think of him all the time but more of the memories now are about how he was with us rather than how he left us.

Well he's perked up a bit and managed to get up a go out to the garden.

Don't rush but equally don't leave it too long. Sympathies from the Sandwich household.

Sorry to hear.
Our Lab is 12 and her legs were going, ended up getting some medicine from the vets. She has it every morning and changed her completely. She's still going strong - definitely worth exploring that option if you haven't already.

Poor lad. Tough decision, but nothing worse than seeing them in pain.

saddest day of my life was taking my old labby Brock, to be put to sleep.
his back end gave way the same.
then we stupidly bought a labby bitch, Molly.
dreading the day.......... 😐

feel for you mate. looks a lovely lad too.

Sorry to hear that mate, must be awful. I had a near miss with my (9 yr old) dog last week in what turned out to be an infected prostate, which at one point was looking terminal. I felt so bad then thinking it might be the end, so can't imagine how you feel.

Sorry to hear this, it is heartbreaking when they get old.
Our lab is the same age. He is on Vivitonin and we take him swimming twice a week which has given him loads more strength in his wobbly back end.
Fingers crosse for you both.

What an ace dog!
I don't have a dog, but if I did I'd want one who didn't mind sitting there while I stuck spoons on him.

Go magnetodog!
My Labs on his last legs too.. Back end now has a horrible wobble and the wooden floor in the lounge is a nightmare for him. He's on metacam and has low level laser therapy which seems to have a massive benefit to his pain levels and see a noticeable improvement for a few weeks after he's had it. Incredibly stoic, loyal and wilful dogs. Dreading the day he won't be able to get himself up to his feet.. Which I know is almost upon us....

Like others have said I opened the update with fear!

Silly thing is I'm not really a "pet" sort of person but this thread had me in tears again, probably as he means such a lot to your family.
I've had a crap year so far but threads like this both cheer me up & let me cry.

All hail Magnetodog

Cloudnine dog is still only just limping along. Nearly 14, chronic hip dysplasia. Arthritis. Blind in one eye from glaucoma. Still barks at the postman and wags his tail. Jeez.. it's so hard to call it last orders for your best mate..
