    Can’t find my cable cutters….

Anyone use a dremel to cut gear / brake cables?

    I always use a Dremel with a grinding/cutting wheel.
However, if I had cable cutters I’d use them 🙂

What… carve myself some ghetto cables with a chisel?

I have cut through a cable cleanly by putting it on a vice and hitting the chisel with afore mentioned hammer

    If you insist!
Heat cable with lighter, cut with pliers/scissors?
Coil up the excess until you have a proper look?

Cut with the cutting edge on decent pliers more than once before I owned wire cutters in my youth

Yep, I’ve used a Dremel with a cutting wheel, works great but might melt the outer a bit. As others have said though, ‘real’ cable cutters work best.

As zbonty says, heat the area to be cut with a lighter then use a pair of pliers or mogrips (assuming they have a cutter). Makes it a lot easier when you’re trying to bodge it!

I tried it once. I’ve never seen a cable unravel so fast!

just try it on the end bit, you don’t have to cut it to length.
maybe wrap it in tape and then cut it on a hard surface/ or whilst held in pliers to stop it unravelling.
I’ve used one for outers before.
