    I skelped my rear derailer pretty hard when my back wheel slid off a duckboard section while at AE.

    Now I cant get it to select the top two rings on my cassette. The gear cable is going slack as hell but derailer wont move.

    Should I take it to LBS and get them to look at it? Or buy new one off CRC for 39 quid?

    Cheers

    Can't really see if it is the hanger, but I would bet that that is the problem. Good news for you as it'll be cheaper than the mech. Undo the mech then post another pic.

    Very bent. I would;
    1) loosen off cable with gear selection
    2) undo the cable bolt at the rear Derailleur
    3) Remove the rear Derailleur
    4) Undo the bit of alloy (hanger) the Derailleur is bolted onto, which in turn is bolted onto the frame.
    5) Put the hanger in a vice and straighten out or bodge with a flat bit of concrete and brick – or if flushed (£15ish) go to shop with hanger and get new one.
    6) re-assemble.

    Appologies for rather hand held response, but if you need to know what a hanger is then this might be useful.

    Hope its just the hanger, the cheaper repair job.

    I've just had to replace the MF'ing lot, after snapping hanger and snagging the derailleur in rear wheel.

    That angle is severe and John you were lucky not to total the rear derailleur when shifting to largest cog. Looks mighty close to spokes now.

    Are you ****ing us?

    Straighten whichever of the hanger/mech is bent – use an adjustable spanner.
