I've a battered frame that needs repainting. Far too lazy and time-poor to do it myself, so my default option was to find a local powder coater who can strip and coat it.

However, I've just heard of Cerakote which looks interesting. Thinner than powder coating, supposedly nice and tough too. Does anyone have experience with that on a frame?

This is just to freshen up my daughter's new bike build so I don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Is it still around £100 per litre?

I know it's used a lot on custom motorcycles at least.

Amazing builders called Debolex always seem to use it.

I've had one quote of £160 for stripping and cerakoting so it's not outrageously more than powder coating, which was £120 a couple of years ago.

I thought you meant as a DIY project. If you know someone who can do it then go for it and show us the pictures. It does look good. I'm planning to do large chunks of my MX bike eventually.

Fastline Coatings in Preston has new owners George and Amy who are offering new stuff. Now doing cerakote and shortly full phosphate dip pre-treatment for steel frames. Very helpful and more bike / car / motorcycle focused rather than bulk industrial stuff.

I've not used cerakote yet but they did a good job of normal powder on frame and two racks for £90.

I got a bike done by taccoatings in Hereford. Can't reccomend them enough. I'm super happy with it; looks great and added bonus it's a lot lighter than paint. It's not a perfect finish there are some parts where it has a similar effect to orange peel - i'm still happy though.

It's a lot more £ than powder coating - maybe double.

Only photo of the bike.

I'm going to get my frame Cerakote'd when it arrives early next year, might get the stem and seat post done to match to.
Fortunate enough to be getting a mate to do it, he's happy to be paid in coffee beans😁

I’ve had a Surly Midnight Special cerokoated about 18 months ago, its tougher than any paint finish I’ve had before, no chips and cable rubs just starting to go shiney rather than wearing through

I have a custom steel frame with a cerekote finish. I think it's slightly less durable than a paint finish - probably lighter in weight though.

Jut received my frame back from George at Fastline. They've done an absolutely excellent job and were very nice to deal with. Just over 3 weeks from sending it off to getting it back. This is the H series 'Navy Blue'.
