  • Car insurance for students just for holidays? Is it even a thing?

Daughters off to Uni in September, since she passed her test in January she’s been on my wifes insurance.

However, I’m not keen on paying the extra £1200 to have her on there if she’s only going to be around to use the car in holiday periods (although i’m keen to have her drive then to keep up practice – and chauffeur us around!)

Before I speak to the insurance co, who will probably struggle to understand what I want going on past experience, has anyone managed to do set up something to provide cover only in holidays?

    Yes,

We can add our offspring to our policies for a week at a time.
£72 week for one car and £40 per week for the other.

Compared to the increased annual premium it’s better value but still seems steep when you are asked to insure for two weeks.

There is a limit to the total amount of additional weeks we can insure for.

Just remembered on my policy they have to be minimum 21 years old
    so that needs checking.

My Mum and Dad used to do exactly what your planning while I was at Uni (although this was nearly 10years ago), I think it just depends on the individual insurance companies as to how easy/expensive they make it!
