  • Brake mounts – are they all created equally?

Or, to put it another way, I have some Avid brakes that I’m replacing with Shimano.

Will I need to replace the mounts too (the fork is IS to Post – I only have Post to Post spares)?

I would replace. Avid have the weird tri-align cobblers that just gets in the way.

Get some Hope or Shimano ones to suit. Avoid ones from folk who don’t make brakes. I tried Ashima and they were really crappy; poor quality and really awkward to fit.

assuming you’re using the same rotor size, just re-use your existing mounts. The

‘tri-align cobblers that just gets in the way’

don’t get in the way and just space an Avid caliper to the same mounting position as any other post mount caliper.
