I’m building up an Orange Crush with mix and match drivetrain transplanting parts from current donor bike. I’ve got a 1x drivetrain, a mix of raceface cranks, deore shifters and SLX mech which came as stock with the original donor bike, all non-boost. I’ve swapped out chainring fo a Hope retainer ring and Sunrace 11-46 cassette. It runs nicely and I don’t feel I need a new groupset as there’s little wear on it. I got a GX chain set for the new bike, mainly to get a newer crankset and boost hub. It’s got a 30 tooth chainring and I wanted to swap it for a non-SRAM (and, okay nice colour matched!) 32 tooth narrow wide ring. First question – what am I looking for (direct mount etc)? Who does ano (specifically orange) chainrings that’ll fit a GX crank, and finally, if I stick with the GX ring, will it “play nice” with non-SRAM parts – shimano shifters and SLX mech, and Sunrace cassette?

No issues with chain/chainring/cassette compatibility on 11 speed, 12 speed Shimano chains can be a bit iffy with non-shimano specific chainrings though

RaceFace, Wolf Tooth, Superstar, Absoute Black, Garbaruk, BlackSpire and more all do SRAM direct mount rings in colours.

Forgot to say, it’s 10 speed – I’ve got 12 speed nx on other bike and struggle to find noticeable benefits on my riding style – does that mess things up? Also GXP isn’t a proprietary interface is it (like Hope’s) Am I just looking for generic “direct mount”? Chain’s non Shimano too, just a KMC 10 speed whic I’ve always found fine.

No, 9/10/11 speed all good, only 12 speed has the hassle with Shimano chains

GXP is the axle, BB, not related to the direct mount. You do need a SRAM direct mount ring, SRAM have their own design, different to Hope/RaceFace CInch/Shimano, but all the brands mentioned above do chainrings to fit SRAM direct mount cranks – sram cranks have 3 bolts on the back, that fit the 3 larger indents on the ring, see the pics in links below (I think there’s a newer style also, but mainly for road, double check yours is held on by 3 bolts)

    Or this one

Shop around, you’ll find an orange one 🙂

This looks a likely candidate – last question, the 3mm offset standard for boost? https://burgtec.co.uk/product/sram-boost-3mm-offset-thick-thin-chainring/

Yep, 3mm boost, 6 is non boost (3mm closer to the frame)
