I have just limped home from my first “big” ride of the year (about twice as far as what I have been doing to date). I have a hectic work day tomorrow and don’t want to fall asleep at my desk. What should I be doing now? Current plan is to eat as much as I physically can and to take a hot bath. I feel properly empty….must have been all the mud 🙂

Get some sugar in you, eat a decent-sized tea early, get to bed early, decent breakfast and make sure you have plenty of stuff to graze on at work – banana, malt loaf, raisins, nuts etc. Be prepared to drink lots tomorrow too
I did a very muddly 19 miles on the MTB yesterday and 40 miles on the road bike today and the muddy ride was far harder… mud is hard work!

Not only eat lots, but make sure you eat the right stuff. Protein is key to repairing muscles. Cake is also important, as is Ale.
