[Closed] Blind fixings for steel box under plywood...

Need to re-hang some plywood wings (aka doors) on my horsebox. Previously they were fixed with big screws that either snap or loosen.

I got myself a rivnut tool which is perfect for one side which is straight into steel box section, however I didn't realise that the other side has 12/18mm ply between the plastic wall covering and the box section.

So having drilled out 10mm holes through the wood and into the box section, I quickly realised the rivnuts are useless as they are too short. Even if I enlarged the hole in the ply to set the rivnut against the steel, I still wouldn't be able to get the rivnut tool in there due to its size.

The perfect solution seems to be a blind bolt by www.blindbolt.co.uk but there are not many stockists and even ebay drew a blank.

Screwfix do some hollow wall anchors that might do the trick, has anyone used them? Unfortunately they only sell up to M6 and I really need M8 size. http://www.screwfix.com/p/rawlplug-intersets-m6-x-37mm-pack-of-20/40813

Bit long but they're M8. I've used them and you just have to check the minimum thickness. The above look to be suited to quite a thick wall.

Could you maybe try something like this to install the rivnut? - http://home.btconnect.com/astro-site/pulling_rivnuts.htm

For steel try Tek screws. You won't be able to use the holes you have drilled though.

Would something like these do the job ?

Thanks - several ideas there ๐Ÿ™‚

Think I've discounted the rivnuts as even if I can get them in they will be set back 12-18mm from the hinge so reckon they would work loose with the horse leaning on the doors and the wind shaking them about. Reckon this rules out the rubber nuts as well.

So I think the blind bolts still seem the best option (over the Tec Screws) but I've realised the M5 hollow wall fixing is a 10mm hole so am going to try them first simply as I can get them tomorrow and it means I can get the trailer usable again!

Is this Any good? They come in different lengths with different length tips ( the drilling/cutting part ) depending on the material thickness you need to drill through.
