Fitted a stinger chain device last night to a 2 ring set up 22/36/bash. It works fine in the larger ring but the chain will not sit in the groove of the roller in the granny ring. How do I fix this?

It's not supposed to (at least on all the set ups I've seen it on), it runs on the inside of the ramped up bit of the roller when in the granny ring.
