There is a bit of play in the top pivot of the rocker. Apparently the kits from Trek are quite expensive to buy. Does anyone know of a cheaper way of rectifying the problem?

tighten up the bolts in the rocker. they are bushings i think rather than bearings.

i had the same worry on my trance, turned out to be that the top rocker hadnt been threadlocked, and so had come a bit loose,
first step check the picots are nipped up tightly?

    next is check the bushings

if your sure its the bearings, take the numbers off them (or look them up) and go to a bearing company :S
for pivts, ude be wanting full compliment bearings (no bearing cage, all bearings)

find out what bearing numbers you need and get yourself over to http://www.mountainbikecomponents.co.uk/index.asp.

order the MAX type bearings as they are designed for low rotation & should last longer. will work out cheaper than buying the official Trek kit.

you’ll need a big mallet, screwdriver (to knock the old bearings out) and sockets that have the same diameter as the outer race of the bearing (to press new ones back in). don’t be scared of using a lot of force and make sure you clean and lightly grease bearing housing!
